Madara whipped his head toward Qin Mo, a flicker of shock flashing through his eyes. "What did you say?"
Qin Mo's voice was so calm it was almost cold. "Father predicted the Senju's plan long ago. Back at the clan grounds, he's already laid an inescapable net."
Madara's pupils contracted sharply, and his father's meaningful gaze before they set out flashed through his mind.
Madara tightened his fists. "So... we were used as bait?"
"No." Qin Mo shook his head gently. "We're the 'open cards.' The real bait is the 'empty fort strategy' at the clan grounds."
In the distance, Senju Butsuma also sensed that something was wrong. He shot to his feet, his face dark. "Something's off! The Uchiha's resistance is too weak!"
Senju Tobirama swiftly formed hand signs and spread out his sensory ninjutsu. His expression changed drastically. "Father! It's a trap!"
Senju Butsuma slammed his fist hard into a tree trunk. "Damn it! Retreat at once!"
But it was already too late.
In the direction of the Uchiha clan grounds, a dazzling blaze shot into the sky, followed by an earth-shaking explosion. Even from several miles away, they could feel the ground tremble.
The distant firelight was reflected in Madara's eyes. "That's..."
"Fire Style: Great Flame Flower," Qin Mo explained softly. "Combined with an explosive tag formation, it's enough to make sure the Senju ambush force never returns."
Madara was silent for a moment. "You knew all of this from the start? Why didn't you tell me?"
Qin Mo looked straight into Madara's eyes. "Big brother, you are destined to become the future clan head of the Uchiha. Father is tempering you.
"And I... was only here to guarantee your safety! This was Father's arrangement. I could only do as he said."
Half an hour later, the sounds of killing on the battlefield gradually died down, and the Senju clan's ninjas began to retreat in panic.
Madara looked at the enemies collapsing and fleeing in the distance, but there was no joy of victory in his heart.
"What you said before... that the Uchiha would be wiped out. Is it true?" Madara asked, staring at Qin Mo.
Qin Mo's gaze turned toward the distance. "If things followed their original course... yes."
"Original course?" Madara keenly caught the key point.
Qin Mo did not answer. Instead, he suddenly closed his eyes.
Madara also noticed something was wrong with Qin Mo. "What happened to you?"
Qin Mo forced a smile. "My eyes are just a little tired. Don't worry, big brother."
Madara frowned. "Go back to camp and rest first."
Qin Mo nodded.
On the way back to camp.
"Mo," Madara suddenly said, "did your Sharingan really awaken on the night Mother died?"
Qin Mo's steps paused slightly, then returned to normal. "Yes."
Madara stared at the side of his face. "But a three-month-old infant doesn't even have basic awareness, does he?"
A strange look flashed through Qin Mo's eyes. "Big brother, what exactly are you trying to say?"
Madara stopped and looked Qin Mo straight in the eyes. "I want you to help me awaken my Sharingan."
A light breeze stirred their robes, while the lingering smell of gunpowder had yet to fade from the battlefield.
Qin Mo silently watched Madara.
"Big brother, are you truly prepared?" Qin Mo's voice was very soft. "Awakening the Sharingan requires experiencing the deepest pain in your heart."
"Pain?" Madara said coldly. "I've already gone through battles great and small and witnessed countless clansmen die. Is none of that painful enough?"
"Because none of that was 'your' pain," Qin Mo interrupted.
Madara's brows locked tight. "What do you mean?"
The three tomoe in Qin Mo's eyes spun rapidly, and the scenery around them instantly twisted and changed.
Madara warily looked around and discovered that they were actually standing at one of the Uchiha's outposts.
"This is the memory of the night Mother died," Qin Mo's voice came from all directions. "I'll let you experience everything I felt at the time."
The scene abruptly shifted, and Madara found himself turned into an infant in swaddling clothes.
Through the infant's blurry vision, he saw his mother's gentle smiling face.
Suddenly, an explosion rang out.
His mother frantically picked "him" up and wove through the burning house.
A kunai tore through the air. His mother turned and used her body to block it in front of "him."
Madara could clearly feel warm blood dripping onto his face and hear his mother's heartbeat growing weaker and weaker.
That extreme fear, helplessness, and pain surged over him like a tide.
Until Miyuki Uchiha, in order to protect him, forced herself to perish together with the enemy.
"Ah!" Madara suddenly dropped to his knees, an intense burning sensation coming from both eyes as his vision turned blood-red.
Qin Mo immediately dispelled the genjutsu.
"Big brother!" Qin Mo held his trembling shoulders. "Your eyes..."
Madara raised his head, panting, and Qin Mo saw a slowly rotating single tomoe in his pupils.
"I... succeeded?" Madara touched the corner of his eye in disbelief.
Qin Mo's expression was unusually grave. "Big brother, this is only the beginning. Every time the Sharingan evolves, you must experience pain on an even deeper level."
Madara stood up, a resolute light flickering in his newly awakened single-tomoe Sharingan. "As long as I can gain the power to protect the clan, I'm willing to bear any price."
Expressionless, Qin Mo asked, "Big brother, is your wish really only to protect the clan?"
Madara froze slightly, his brows furrowing even more. "What do you mean?"
"What you desire deep inside is not merely protection." Qin Mo took a step forward. "What you want is to end this chaotic age and create a world where our younger brothers and sisters don't have to go to the battlefield, isn't it?"
Madara's pupils contracted sharply. "You... how would you know..."
"I guessed!" Qin Mo smiled faintly.
"What about you?" Madara asked curiously. "What is your wish?"
Qin Mo said softly, "My wish should be to restore the glory of the Uchiha clan!"
"That should be the wish of every Uchiha clansman!" Madara said.
"No!" Qin Mo shook his head, his expression instantly turning unusually cold.
"I want to kill until, in this world, anyone who sees my Uchiha clan has to kneel to greet us.
"I want everyone to tremble in terror the moment they hear the mighty name of my Uchiha clan."
At those words, Madara was shocked.
Kill until everyone in the world knelt and trembled at the sight of an Uchiha?
Madara immediately sucked in a cold breath. He understood this younger brother of his less and less.
But he still reminded him with concern, "Mo, no matter what happens, you have to stay alive, understand?"
The coldness in Qin Mo's eyes gradually faded, and he returned to his usual gentle appearance. "Don't worry, big brother! I'm tough. I won't die that easily."
Madara looked at Qin Mo's smile, yet an inexplicable unease rose in his heart.
He always felt that this younger brother was hiding far too many secrets.
"Let's go. It's time to head back." Madara turned and walked toward the camp, and Qin Mo silently followed.
The night deepened, and the campfires in the camp swayed in the wind.
Uchiha Tajima stood outside the tent, his deep gaze fixed on his two returning sons.
"Father!"
"Father!"
Madara and Qin Mo saluted at the same time.
Tajima nodded slightly, but his gaze fell on Qin Mo. "Mo, come with me."
Qin Mo calmly followed Tajima into the tent.
Inside the tent, the candlelight was dim.
