"Still... can't change it?"
Uchiha Yuan's voice was very soft, so soft it was swallowed at once by the rain and the cicadas calling in the distance.
The moonlight was pale and bright. Puddles of blood on the ground were still flowing toward the low spots. Yuan knelt on the ground, gasping for breath in great heaves.
There was not a patch of good skin left on him. His knees were sunk deep into the mud, and his five fingers clawed madly at the gravel. His nails had long since curled back, exposing raw flesh and blood. Sweat mixed with rainwater and dripped from his chin into the pool of blood.
Footsteps came from the dark alley ahead.
Unhurried. Leather boots stepped into a puddle, splashing up a few drops of bloody water. A kunai flashing with cold light appeared in his vision.
Looking up along the kunai, he saw red light blazing in the curtain of rain. The pinwheel-shaped Mangekyo Sharingan slowly turned.
It was Itachi Uchiha.
Yuan raised his head and split his mouth in a grin, his mouth full of blood. Right now, he did not even have the strength to crawl up.
The kunai stabbed down cleanly and decisively, piercing straight through the back of Yuan's neck.
Agony surged through him. Yuan's body arched backward, and he crashed heavily to the ground, his head smashing straight into the bloody water. His vision blurred, but his eyes remained fixed on the moon overhead.
Tonight's moon was actually so round.
His consciousness began to scatter, countless images flashing before his eyes.
Three years ago, he had still been an ordinary twenty-year-old staying up late in a university dorm playing games. When he opened his eyes again, he had become this nine-year-old child named Uchiha Yuan.
When he discovered this was the Naruto World, and that he was an Uchiha who could be exterminated at any time, he had panicked. Beyond that, he discovered that there was actually another original soul inside this body, one from the night of the massacre in the previous life. Two different souls were constantly being tugged at and tangled together in his mind, until they finally fused into one.
The current Yuan knew the plot. He knew Itachi would go mad, knew Obito would come, knew Danzo's conspiracy.
He wanted to save people. He ran to tell Uncle Cheng and Aunt Mihui, who doted on him the most, saying the Uchiha were finished and that they had to flee.
Uncle Cheng smiled and rubbed his hair. "Did Yuan have a nightmare today? Don't be scared. Uncle's here."
No one believed him. Every clansman thought something was wrong with his head.
With no other choice, he could only train with all his might. In three years, he became a chunin. During those three years, Uncle Cheng taught him to throw shuriken and told him the history of the Uchiha. When he was bullied within the clan, Uncle Cheng was the first to charge out with a blade in hand. Every evening, the two of them sat under the veranda and watched the sunset. Sasuke Uchiha, the boy who chased after him shouting "Brother Yuan," also pestered him to learn ninjutsu.
"Yuan, what do you want to do when you grow up?" Under the glow of the setting sun, Uncle Cheng sat beneath the veranda, smoking his pipe as he asked.
"Stay with Uncle and Aunt, watch the sun go down every day. Anything's fine as long as we're together." Yuan had smiled foolishly back then.
He had thought those days could go on forever. In secret, he dug a cellar, stockpiled a full three months of food and water, and obtained talismans that concealed one's aura. He had planned it all out. On the night of the massacre, as long as they hid in the basement, he could definitely keep many people alive.
But...
Just three hours ago.
Yuan was in the basement, checking the explosive tags one last time. Suddenly, a heart-wrenching scream came from above.
He rushed out of the basement like a madman and ran back to the courtyard. The door had been smashed to pieces. Aunt Mihui had collapsed beside the stove, a short blade stuck in her stomach. Beside her stood a Root ninja wearing an animal mask.
That was the Third Hokage and Danzo's lackey!
The night of the massacre had come a day early!
Yuan's eyes instantly turned red. He drew his blade and pounced, relying on the ferocity of a desperate gamble to drive the blade into that Root ninja's throat.
He stuffed the heavily injured Aunt Mihui, along with a dozen old, weak, women, and children who happened to survive in passing and had not yet been killed, into the basement. It was packed tight, and every corner was plastered with talismans.
"Don't make a sound! No matter what you hear, don't come out!" he roared in a low voice.
Just as he turned to head to the village entrance to find Uncle Cheng, several Anbu charged out from the end of the alley. Uncle Cheng, covered in blood, retreated to his side and shielded him firmly behind him.
"Yuan, run—"
A poisoned ninja blade stabbed into Uncle Cheng's back and pierced out through his chest.
Blood splattered all over Yuan's face. It was scalding hot.
Uncle Cheng collapsed into Yuan's arms, coughing up mouthfuls of bloody foam, his life almost gone. With great effort, he raised his hand and touched Yuan's face.
"Yuan... don't be sad... live on... for me... see tomorrow's sun... Mihui..."
Before his words had even faded, his hand dropped.
From Uncle Cheng's corpse, a faint wisp of pale golden light suddenly floated out and drilled into Yuan's chest. Yuan's mind was blank, and he did not notice this strange scene at all. He only knew that Uncle Cheng, who had always smiled kindly at everyone, was gone.
"Ding—"
At that moment, a cold mechanical voice exploded in his mind.

The panel before Yuan's eyes was flashing with red light.
But he had no time to care about the system right now.
Aunt Mihui and those dozen survivors were still in the basement not far away. He had not tested the effects of the basement's talismans yet, and did not know whether they could block the search of a top expert. If Itachi followed the bloodstains over there, everyone would die.
He had to lure Itachi away and blur his line of sight! He had to fight for a slim chance of survival for everyone!
Yuan stood up and gently laid Uncle Cheng's corpse on the ground from his arms. He wiped the blood from his face. His originally black pupils instantly turned scarlet, three tomoe spinning wildly in his eyes.
Kage-level chakra was like a volcano on the verge of eruption, bursting completely through every part of his body!
"Itachi Uchiha—!"
Yuan suddenly threw his head back and roared at the top of his lungs. The voice, mixed with enormous chakra, directly shook the tiles of the nearby houses until they clattered and fell.
"You beast who even killed your own father and mother! You killed everyone I loved and everyone who loved me. The only Uchiha left are me and Sasuke! Come on! I'm right here!"
He even deliberately pulled the ninja blade from his back and kicked over the stone lantern standing nearby.
Boom!
The stone lantern smashed onto the bluestone slabs, sending broken rocks flying everywhere.
The instant the stone lantern hit the ground, that figure walked out through the curtain of rain.
He had not yet put on the black robe with red clouds. Itachi was only wearing the Uchiha clan's standard uniform, his face stained with the blood of his own clansmen. He raised his head, his Mangekyo Sharingan staring coldly at Yuan, who was going berserk.
"You are also... Uchiha?" Itachi's voice had no fluctuation at all. That icy gaze was like he was looking at a corpse.
Yuan split his mouth in a grin.
He was about to succeed. Itachi's attention had been completely drawn to him and was no longer searching elsewhere.
"I'm your dad! Call me Daddy!"
Without another word, Yuan kicked off the ground, stamping a half-meter-wide crater into the bluestone slab.
Bang!
A sonic boom rang out! Ultimate taijutsu mastery turned his entire body into a streak of black lightning, bringing him right up to Itachi's face in an instant. His right hand clenched into a fist, carrying an ear-piercing whistle as it smashed straight toward Itachi's cheek!
Too fast!
The Mangekyo in Itachi's eyes shrank sharply. He only had time to raise both arms and cross them in front of himself.
"Boom!"
The sound of the fist smashing into bone arms was terrifyingly dull. Itachi's entire body slid backward uncontrollably more than a dozen steps, his feet plowing two deep furrows through the mud, until he crashed through half a wall and finally stopped.
Itachi shook his numb arms and looked at the spinning Three-Tomoe Sharingan in Yuan's eyes. At last, a faint ripple entered his tone.
"Three Tomoe?... Interesting."
Yuan spat out a mouthful of bloody foam and flexed his wrist, his bones cracking.
"Interesting, my ass. Today, I'm smashing that paralyzed face of yours to pulp. Let's see if it's still interesting then!"
