Yu Ke had not expected the beautiful woman to come calling at this hour.
"Young Master Yu," Feng Ping said, parting her red lips, "forgive my unannounced visit. Might I come in for a word?"
Come in?
Yu Ke glanced instinctively at the room opposite his. Cai Yingzhao's door was shut tight, and no shadow showed on the window paper.
An upright man had no reason to fear a crooked shadow!
"Please come in, Madam Feng."
He stepped aside. Feng Ping entered, bringing a waft of delicate perfume with her.
Feng Ping walked in gracefully, then reached back and gently closed the door.
The wooden door's creak made Yu Ke's eyelid twitch.
The room dimmed. Moonlight fell through the window, scattering flecks of light and shadow across her flower-like face.
Yu Ke blinked at the sight.
He was no iron-willed official. He could not withstand temptation like this!
Feng Ping came straight to the point. "Young Master Yu, I have an unreasonable request!"
She laid a hand against her chest. "This matter is terribly important to me..."
She suddenly stepped closer, her eyes glistening. "My life depends on it. I beg you, young master—"
Her breath was fragrant as orchids, and her eyes held a pleading look. A faint orchid scent brushed Yu Ke's cheek.
Yu Ke hurriedly said, "Madam Feng, please tell me. If I can help, I certainly will."
When Feng Ping explained, Yu Ke realized his thoughts had gone astray.
She was worried about her precious "son." Having heard rumors about the Hidden Immortal Land today, she had come to ask Yu Ke to look after him.
She only wanted Yu Ke to stay in regular contact with her.
"If anything happens to Yingzhao, I won't go on living."
Yu Ke offered a few words of comfort.
