The Army of the Light's auxiliary forces, utterly crushed by the Horde Orc army, began fleeing toward Light Fortress, hoping to gain the protection of the Army of the Light's Lightbound and Lightforged forces within. They wanted to use the sturdy fortress to escape the terrifying Orcs.
However, the Lightforged and Lightbound forces inside Light Fortress clearly had no intention of doing so. They did not open the gates, instead allowing the Army of the Light's auxiliary forces to remain blocked outside.
"Archbishop Turalyon, my personal guard is still outside. Why won't you let them in?" After entering Light Fortress, Draenei Archbishop Akama discovered that Archbishop Turalyon had directly ordered the Army of the Light's Lightforged to shut the gates, leaving even Akama's personal guard outside.
Unlike the other archbishops of the Army of the Light, Archbishop Akama placed particular importance on his personal guard. He could accept the Army of the Light abandoning its auxiliary forces, but he could not watch his own Lightbound guards be abandoned as well.
Faced with Archbishop Akama's question, the human Archbishop Turalyon said with a grim expression, "Archbishop Akama, as a commander and an archbishop of the Army of the Light, you must understand how to weigh your options at critical moments. Under the current circumstances, your personal guard must sacrifice themselves for the Army of the Light. Otherwise, once the gates open again, those routed soldiers will flood in, and we will have no way to close them again. Then the Orcs will charge directly into Light Fortress."
Archbishop Turalyon was not wrong. As the Alliance commander who had defeated the Old Horde, and as an archbishop of the Army of the Light who had fought the Burning Legion for a thousand years, there was absolutely nothing wrong with his strategic thinking.
