Background and History
The Blackrock Clan committed itself to the Horde's Kalimdor migration, seeking to help establish a homeland rather than remain tied to Blackrock Spire and Nefarian. Several million Orcs then sailed west in separate fleets, with the Blackrock and Dragonmaw clans covering the rearguard. The Horde seized ships and provisions at Menethil Harbor but only disarmed and imprisoned the local Alliance soldiers. 11 13
After arriving in Kalimdor, the Horde claimed Durotar and began building a port, mapping the region, and clearing threats to its settlement. Thrall's actions against the Quilboar earned the land's acceptance, while Vol'jin formally brought the Darkspear Trolls into the Horde. 14 20 21
The coalition expanded further when the Tauren formally joined. Its early campaigns broke Centaur and Quilboar power across central Kalimdor, allowing the Horde to establish itself as the region's new dominant force. 86 80

Military Organization
Core Legions
- Kor'kron Legion — Elite offensive force selected from the Horde's finest warriors; its members favor mobility and killing efficiency over full heavy armor. 242 249
- Trifarix Legion — Blackrock heavy infantry equipped in full plate armor; created as the Horde's premier defensive legion to hold enemy forces while the Kor'kron attacks. 242
- Bloodhoof Guard — Tauren elite force with extensive experience fighting Centaurs. 58

Combined-Arms Warfare
The Horde combines Orc, Tauren, and Troll melee troops with Shamans, Druids, Warlocks, Mages, artillery, cavalry, and aerial forces. Its Shamans are especially important in mass combat: totems strengthen allied troops while attacks such as Chain Lightning and Bloodlust can alter an entire battlefield. 68 69
- Orc Wolf Riders — Fast cavalry bonded with wolves; used for scouting, pursuit, and mobile warfare. 120
- Tauren Kodo Riders — Heavy cavalry whose mounted charges are described as nearly impossible to stop. 120
- Darkspear Raptor Riders — Agile jungle cavalry suited to reconnaissance and ambushes. 120 121
- Goblin artillery — Used with devastating effect against demon vanguards and Stormwind's defenders. 153 930
- Iron Fleet — A major naval arm able to operate alongside Blood Elf magical vessels and confront the Zandalari Golden Fleet. 633
- Battlecruiser Hyperion — The Horde's first spacecraft, deployed against the Army of the Light's Naaru warp vessel Xenedar. 714
Infrastructure and Institutions
- Orgrimmar — Horde capital built with gates, Grommash Hold, an arena, the Hall of Elements, an embassy, bank, auction house, sanitation facilities, streets, a future port, and a trade district. 185
- Razor Hill — Constructed as a defensive link between the Orcs and Darkspear Trolls. 185
- Crossroads — The Horde's largest settlement after Orgrimmar during the Mount Hyjal aftermath. 168
- Blackhand Fortress — Desolace fortress established after the defeat of the Centaur Khans; twenty thousand Blackrock and Tauren troops remained to build and garrison it. 247
- Uncrowned — Intelligence network built around loyal Orc rogues and Troll shadow hunters, supplemented by Goblins, pirates, and outside criminal organizations. 184
- War Academy — Institution training cadets from the Orc, Tauren, Forsaken, Troll, and Blood Elf peoples. 640
- Teleportation network — Nightborne spatial technology established direct links between major Horde cities, replacing many long-distance zeppelin routes. 635
Culture and Doctrine
- “For the Horde” / “Lok'tar ogar” — More than a battlefield slogan; it unites Horde warriors, restores their resolve, and helped Thrall extend Bloodlust across an army of hundreds of thousands. 29
- Refusal of enslavement — Rend's declaration, “Orcs will never be slaves,” became a rallying cry against Archimonde's crushing pressure and was echoed by Thrall. 167
- Reverence for strength — The Horde built the Valley of Honor arena for more than one hundred thousand spectators and established the Hall of Elements as a center of shamanic faith. 185
- Care for the fallen — Horde forces bury both allied and enemy dead to prevent plague and show respect after battle. 81 247
- Strategic logistics — Rend's grain stockpiling and trade policies created an abundant supply chain that sustained the Horde's war machine across multiple campaigns. 758
