A thunderstorm. The sudden change in weather brought a touch of coolness to the watchpost, though Shane had no need for it.
Sylvanas and Vereesa had temporarily set aside their ranger duties and were preparing to return to Silvermoon City for the Landing Festival. During the brief lull before the festival, the sisters became regular visitors to the mage tower. Because of that, the air within the tower seemed to freeze over.
"Sashana, I have a feeling that our mentor has already..." Kallinda whispered to her companion. As she stepped from the nursery into the mage tower, she became noticeably cautious with every step. From time to time, they had to submit their study records for their mentor's review and receive two hours of instruction.
"Why are you always so concerned about our mentor's private life? It's strange!" Sashana did not particularly like this companion of hers, both because she was too noisy and because she fancied herself the chief apprentice.
"It would be strange not to care." Kallinda found Sashana to be the strange one. How could she not care about such a "major event" happening right before her eyes? It felt as though a cat were scratching at her heart; she would not be satisfied until she had dug up the whole story.
"That's your business. I won't interfere, but don't drag me into it." Sashana quickened her pace and left her companion behind.
"Wait for me! Don't walk so fast. We came together, so don't leave me behind."
By the time they reached the chief mage's floor, the two of them were practically creeping along like cats. The study door stood before them, yet neither pushed it open. Instead, they both extended their still-weak senses to listen to the people inside.
