Eye of Truth

Orendo did not know what was hidden inside his body.

But after waking up from his transmigration.

Whenever he needed it, the device within him would offer whatever help it could.

For example...

Data analysis.

Based on information he learned through his eyes or physical contact, it would analyze it and display the results on his retina.

Like the fresh fish soup and bread before him, it had used Orendo's past experience, memories, and observations to present their information.

Besides data analysis, it also had functions for organizing and storing memory files.

For instance, all of the original Orendo's memories, from the moment his fetal brain had fully developed until every second before Orendo transmigrated into him.

The memories from Orendo's previous life as a librarian had likewise been categorized and organized by it.

It had preserved all of them carefully, storing them in separate files. Whenever Orendo needed them, or came into contact with an object from those memories, they would automatically appear.

For example, when he encountered the butler Dobby, as long as he needed it, every past interaction between Dobby and the original Orendo would appear on his retina.

It probably had other functions as well.

But Orendo had only just awakened, and his mind was still muddled. He was in no state to sort out the functions and purpose of this presence inside him.

"I'll call you the Eye of Truth from now on," he muttered to himself in Chinese, a language no one on Azeroth could understand.

The Eye of Truth ignored him.

That was outside the scope of its services.

His action, however, left the maid beside him utterly bewildered.

She thought, Master is speaking that strange language again. It sounds coherent, and Master is an apprentice mage from Dalaran. Could he be speaking a magical language?

Orendo did not know what the maid was thinking.

After he had eaten his fill, he told her to leave and lay down on the bed for a while.

When he woke again, he left the bedroom and looked at what the tauren of this world called An'she.

An'she was the right eye of the Earth Mother in the tales of the tauren on the western continent—the sun.

By this time, the sun had already tilted westward.

Judging by its position in the sky, Orendo estimated that it was around three or four in the afternoon.

As he walked through the courtyard, the servants greeted him.

Imitating the way his past self had responded in his memories, Orendo smiled and nodded back at them.

The servants all breathed a sigh of relief.

The master had recovered. Everyone felt much more at ease.

House Sefrosa was the gentlest noble lord in the Hillsbrad Foothills.

The people all hoped Lord Sefrosa would live a long life, so their lives would not undergo any drastic changes for no reason.

Orendo took a brief walk around his estate.

House Sefrosa had endured for a long time. Its heirs over several generations had all been beloved by the people, and the family's internal affairs were well managed.

He did not need to worry about the family's affairs. Loyal Dobby would take care of everything.

If something arose that even Butler Dobby could not handle, his current self would not be able to deal with it either.

Orendo sighed.

He returned to his courtyard.

Standing amid the flower-filled courtyard, Orendo lowered his head and looked at his hands, which were almost entirely hairless.

This was another trait of his half-elven blood—elves had no excess body hair.

The Quel'dorei, long bathed in the energy of the Sunwell, had been transformed into beings of exceptional beauty.

Aside from their hair, eyebrows, and beards, high elves were said to be hairless everywhere else.

The same went for both men and women.

Orendo thought the legend was true.

Because he was one himself.

As a half-human, half-high elf, thirteen-year-old Orendo had not a single hair anywhere else on his body besides his head and eyebrows.

Yes, that place you were thinking of had no hair either.

Though perhaps he was simply too young and had not developed yet.

The ancestors of humans in this world had come from the frigid north, so all their descendants were hairy creatures.

Even most human women had luxuriant body hair.

If his own body hair truly was sparse, he could only thank his half-high elf bloodline for it.

In his heart, Orendo thanked his high elf birth mother, who had supposedly disappeared when he was only one year old.

After a moment of reflection.

Orendo closed his eyes and raised his right hand.

He began following the portions of his categorized and analyzed memories concerning occult spells.

According to the memories and knowledge of apprentice mage Orendo, the first step for human and elven mages in this world was to sense the omnipresent ley lines and energy of Azeroth.

Orendo the transmigrator called this step "connecting to the internet."

After getting online, the second step was to construct a spell model and arrange the energy particles.

Orendo the transmigrator called this step "programming."

Once the spell model had been constructed and the energy particles arranged, the third step began—finding a target and throwing the completed spell at it. The target could be an enemy or oneself.

Orendo the transmigrator called this step "sending."

Connect to the internet, program, send.

That was the casting process of a spellcaster on Azeroth.

With that understanding, Lord Sefrosa began attempting the first step of a mage's career: connecting to the internet.

With his eyes closed, Orendo searched for Azeroth's ley line energy.

The mage knowledge in his memories told him that ley line energy was everywhere across Azeroth's surface. Azeroth itself was the womb of a Titan world-soul.

And Titans were supreme beings on the arcane side. They were arcane, order, and rules themselves.

This body was half elf and half human, and thus possessed the foundations of arcane talent.

Relying on his previous memories, Orendo easily connected to the ley lines, as simply as people on Earth connected their phones to the internet.

The second step was to begin constructing a spell model and arranging energy particles.

This step was far more difficult than the first.

As some archmages of Dalaran put it, "Sensing the ley lines proves you're not a block of wood, but whether you can become a mage depends on whether you can successfully cast a Fireball!"

For a human to become a mage and enter Dalaran to study, the first requirement was being able to sense the existence of the ley lines. The second step had two possible paths.

One path was this: you had to possess outstanding talent in one of several spellcasting-related areas, such as learning spells, constructing spell models, or sensing energy. Only then could you quickly master various spell models and earn Dalaran's favor.

The other path was this: money. You had to be very rich, or very powerful. Rich or powerful enough that senior mages, for the sake of money or influence, might sometimes be willing to tirelessly teach you those things.

If you possessed both, then you were a genius among geniuses.

The original Orendo could sense the existence of the ley lines. He learned spell models somewhat slowly, but not so slowly that he could not learn them.

That was the aptitude of most mages.

Not a block of wood, but not a genius either.

Fortunately, House Sefrosa was very wealthy and held a certain degree of authority in the central Hillsbrad Foothills.

He also had a high elf birth mother.

So even though the previous Orendo could not properly cast even the most basic Fireball, he was still destined to enter Dalaran to study.

Perhaps he would learn more slowly, but the original Orendo still knew how to construct the model for the most basic fire spell—Fireball.

Orendo retrieved the Fireball spell model data from his mind. Then, having connected to the internet, he began constructing his first spell.

Suddenly.

[BUG detected in this spell model. It can be repaired and improved. Proceed with repairs?]

After retrieving the data, this message appeared on his retina.

Without hesitation.

"Yes."

That was what he thought.

[Beginning improvement...]

[Thirty minutes required. Please wait...]

In the courtyard.

Orendo stood with his eyes closed, looking as though he were deep in meditation.

Half an hour later.

He reached out again.

A blazing fireball, hot enough to raise the surrounding temperature by several degrees, flickered in his hand.

The third step of a mage's casting: find a target...

Orendo looked around at the flowers and plants in the courtyard. Every one of them was beautiful, and he could not bear to destroy them.

The fireball had to be thrown.

Otherwise, there would be unpleasant consequences.

After looking around for a target.

Orendo looked overhead.

You'll do!

His spell's target was—the sky!

The extraordinarily scorching fireball broke free from Orendo's pale fingertips with a shriek and shot into the heavens.

Before the smile of successful spellcasting could even fade from his face, Orendo could not help but jump.

What was that flying over?
