Pain!
A splitting headache!
His heart was constricting, his blood felt stagnant, and his body was freezing.
That was Zhang Tong's first sensation upon waking from unconsciousness.
After a few seconds, he moved his eyes and struggled to look around.
All around him was a desolate night.
Dense woods formed a triangular expanse like spearheads, stretching endlessly outward.
Not far away, a fire crackled as it burned.
The pitch-black night, crimson flames, and smell of scorched earth formed a scene like the fires of hell.
Where was this?!
Why was I here?
As Zhang Tong moved his body, those questions flooded his mind.
He tried hard to remember, forcing his fading consciousness back into focus.
Feeling gradually returned to his body, bit by bit, like droplets gathering on a leaf, and his bodily functions slowly recovered.
Hadn't he been taking part in a street battle?
He had been gaining the upper hand and was about to completely crush his opponent. Why had everything suddenly gone black, only for him to wake up in this godforsaken place?
Zhang Tong thought hard for several seconds, but still came up empty.
He moistened his dry lips and opened his mouth to call for help.
"Waaah! Waaah! Waaah!"
The sound that came out gave him a terrible fright.
He had actually made the cry of a baby?!
Startled, he looked down at his body.
Tiny arms and legs, soft pink skin. His tender little feet kicked about while his weak little hands waved in the air. He was completely and utterly a baby!
I turned into a baby?!
Had he caught up with the recent transmigration craze and become one of those glorious transmigrators?!
But...
How was that possible?!
How could trash like him possibly transmigrate?!
He had grown up in an orphanage, sensitive and unable to fit in. After entering society, his withdrawn personality had completely transformed into one that was outgoing and violent.
Cynical, indifferent, selfish, always causing trouble—despised and hated by everyone. How could someone like him have been chosen to become a transmigrator?
If some sort of Time-Space Administration Bureau existed, then surely some employee had neglected their duties and made a mistake?!
After venting, he forced himself to calm down.
His top priority now was survival!
He was in the middle of nowhere, with no one around and a fire burning nearby. As a baby with absolutely no ability to survive, even if he did not freeze or starve to death, and was not carried off by a wild beast, the spreading fire might still swallow him whole.
Since he could not call for help, he had to take action himself!
A person had to rely on himself!
That had been Zhang Tong's creed in life ever since his days at the orphanage.
He swung his arms with all his strength and rolled over on the blanket wrapped around him, turning himself toward another direction so he could survey the surroundings.
"Huff, huff!"
He panted heavily.
As a baby who could not even walk, merely rolling over had nearly cost him his life.
After resting for a moment to catch his breath, he looked around.
About six or seven meters to the left of his body, he spotted a deep pit giving off steam.
Unlike the white smoke from burning trees, the hazy white vapor rising from the pit carried no smell of burning. It seemed more like some unnatural mist.
Unable to stand and see the full picture clearly, Zhang Tong could only roughly guess that there was a meteorite inside the pit.
That also explained why there was a fire in the area.
The meteorite had fallen from the sky, caught fire through friction with the atmosphere, and finally crashed into this forest, creating a crater and starting the blaze.
If there were no open flames in the crater and the temperature was not too high, it would be a suitable place for him to hide from both the cold and the fire.
With that thought, Zhang Tong stretched out his little hands, wrapped the blanket tightly around himself, took a deep breath, and rolled toward the crater along the slight slope rising above the ground.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
Fortunately, it had rained here earlier. The ground was not hard and was covered in fallen leaves, allowing him to successfully roll near the crater.
Having successfully braked, he shifted his body, poked his head out, and glanced into the pit.
What lay inside immediately shocked him!
A baby-carriage-sized escape pod, blackened in color and steaming with heat, stood clearly before his eyes.
A spaceship?!
It was not a meteorite that had fallen, but a spaceship?!
After staring blankly for two seconds, he decided to go down and check it out.
Although he was a baby now, he had already come this far. He could not back down.
Even if there was danger below, it was still better than lying up here and waiting to die.
He wrapped the blanket tightly around himself, tucked his little head inside, took a deep breath, and rolled down the soft earth.
Thud!
This time, he was not so lucky. His body struck the outer wall of the escape pod with a dull impact.
Even wrapped in the blanket, the pain made him bare his teeth.
After recovering for quite a while, he stretched out his bruised arm and used all his strength to prop himself up.
On all fours, he crawled like a baby toward what appeared to be the entrance of the escape pod.
Click!
The moment he reached out and touched the escape pod, which was engraved with ancient, mysterious patterns, the hatch opened.
Amid clouds of steaming vapor, the interior of the pod came into view.
A baby about the same size as him was lying inside!
When the hatch opened, the infant's curious blue eyes looked at the uninvited guest outside, who was roughly his own age.
How could this be...?!
Zhang Tong was now too shocked to say a word.
Though he could not speak to begin with.
A baby falling from the sky in an escape pod...
Why did this scene seem so familiar?!
His mind went blank for two seconds before he remembered. Wasn't this the fucking plot of Superman?
Though he was not a hardcore comic fan, who had not heard of Superman?!
Could the baby in front of him be Superman?
He gnawed on his finger and immediately began turning over the possibilities in his little head.
If this baby was Superman, then that meant the Kents, who would adopt him in the future, would be arriving soon.
And that meant he was saved too!
A grave look flashed through Zhang Tong's eyes as he instantly made up his mind.
Thump!
A pickup truck sped down the forest road, its body jolting over the uneven ground with dull rattles.
"Smallville's temperature is 9.6 degrees, humidity is 62.3 percent, and wind speed is 12.8 meters per second. Gentlemen, there could not be a more pleasant night than this."
A host's broadcast, laced with static, came through the pickup's radio.
Jonathan Kent frowned.
As a farmer in a small town, what he dreaded most was a forest fire, especially near the harvest festival.
"At 9.6 degrees and 62 percent humidity, a fire is hardly surprising in such abnormally dry weather. Jonathan, judging by the flames, it is only in the woods northwest of the farm, and it does not seem very large."
His wife Martha sat in the passenger seat. Seeing her husband's tightly furrowed brow, she spoke softly to comfort him.
"I am just worried..."
Jonathan's gaze softened beneath his cowboy hat as he said to his wife, "Someone started it deliberately."
As they spoke, the two arrived at the site of the fire.
After getting out of the truck and seeing the sight before them, the couple was stunned!
Inside the escape pod in the crater, the hatch stood open, and a baby lay within.
Beside the escape pod, another baby was curled up on a light-gray blanket.
"This is... Oh my God?!"
Martha covered her mouth, her voice filled with disbelief.
Jonathan calmly surveyed the area, put away his hunting rifle, and slid down along the edge of the crater.
He walked up to the escape pod and carefully picked up the baby inside.
Meanwhile, his wife Martha picked up the baby lying on the blanket and murmured, "Is this a gift from heaven?"
Jonathan said nothing. He carefully examined the baby in his arms.
Naturally, the one Jonathan had taken from the escape pod was Zhang Tong.
True to his nature as a villain, he had immediately seized the nest from its rightful owner. He had crawled into little Superman's escape pod and shoved him out without caring whether the other baby agreed.
You are a Kryptonian. You won't freeze to death, so I'll be borrowing the escape pod for now.
As Jonathan held Zhang Tong in his arms, an electronic voice suddenly sounded in his mind.
"Host has activated the Homelander Template. Loading in progress..."
Homelander?
The weaker version of Superman from The Boys—the ruthless "giant baby" who loved drinking milk?
A smile appeared at the corner of Zhang Tong's lips.
Good. In this dangerous world, he now had some means of protecting himself.
And Homelander...
This world might become more and more interesting!
