Characteristics
Space Beasts vary radically in form, ranging from liquid creatures and giant insects to reptilian tanks, floating conch-like organisms, and artificially modified humanoids. Their common trait is the Space Beast Factor, a highly aggressive substance that provides extreme regeneration and can assimilate living hosts into new Space Beasts. 158 468
- Most possess enormous bodies, exceptional durability, and destructive physical strength.
- Ordinary weapons and conventional military firepower are generally ineffective; even nuclear destruction may fail to prevent regeneration unless their cells are suppressed by Ultraman's light. 177 468
- Their presence can be tracked through distinct Space Beast vibration waves. Richard can sense these directly, while S.H.I.E.L.D. and Wakanda later develop instruments capable of detecting them. 162 254
- Individual Space Beasts can possess specialized organs or biological functions that grant unique abilities, such as illusion projection, phase shifting, light-devouring mist, force fields, and energy attacks. 129 176 504
- Their intelligence varies. Some act primarily on instinct, while others can learn from observation, identify tactical weak points, or retain a host's combat instincts. 162 464 504
Abilities & Skills
Space Beast Factor
The Space Beast Factor is the biological source of a Space Beast's power. It is corrosive, invasive, and able to take over a living organism at the cellular level.
- Can rapidly assimilate a host into a Space Beast; victims are considered effectively beyond recovery. 158
- Grants potent regeneration, allowing a Space Beast to recover from extreme damage as long as viable cells remain. 461 468
- Can reactivate dead tissue, as demonstrated when General Ross's scientists used it with gamma radiation to create the gamma Space Beast Abomination. 161
- Is suppressed by Noah's light and the R7 Factor, allowing Nexus to permanently destroy Space Beasts by dispersing their molecular structure with light energy. 179 461
- Is dangerous even in small quantities; ordinary animals exposed to it may transform into destructive monsters. 703
Regeneration
Most Space Beasts possess regeneration far beyond conventional biological limits.
- Lost limbs and damaged organs can regrow, as Bugbuzun regenerated its severed tail-head after its first battle with Nexus. 101
- The One remained alive after losing its head and much of its upper body to Nexus's attacks. 177
- Regeneration can be neutralized when light energy suppresses the Space Beast Factor. 461 505
- This weakness does not fully apply to Hive's Space Beast body, whose healing derives from Hive's own power rather than the Factor itself. 658
Adaptation and Learning
Space Beasts can adapt their tactics and use abilities permitted by their physiology.
- Pedron learned to imitate aerial combat methods, convert internal fuel into flames, and later use hostages. 464
- Kuttura targeted the energy-output centers of a starship's shield after identifying them as weak points. 504
- Abomination inherited Emil Blonsky's combat instincts, though it lacked strategic judgment. 162
- Ordinary Space Beasts cannot naturally replicate specialized abilities requiring unique organs; Izmael is an exception because of its synthetic composition. 464
Specialized Biological Abilities
Individual Space Beasts may possess powers tied to distinct anatomy.
- Illusion projection — Galberos creates sensory-disrupting mist and illusory projections; The One later manifests the same ability. 117 175 176
- Phase shifting — Guluglaim and related Space Beasts use crystal-like dorsal organs to become translucent and evade attacks. 129 130
- Spatial concealment — Kuttura hides in the subspace known as the Sea of Alien Forms, attacking through temporary vortices. 504 506
- Attack nullification — Megaflash can lock down or erase incoming beam attacks before they reach its body. 455 460
- Reality alteration — Reality uses the Aether's power to erase damage inflicted upon it, rendering it effectively invulnerable until its Reality Stone core is removed. 629 630
Known Space Beasts
| Space Beast | Description and abilities | Notable events |
|---|---|---|
| Pedron | A comparatively weak liquid Space Beast that feeds on humans and gasoline; uses tentacles to capture prey and converts fuel into flame attacks. | The first Space Beast encountered by Richard in the Marvel world; destroyed by Nexus's Cross Storm. 25 26 |
| Bugbuzun | Cockroach-like insect Space Beast with an armored shell, sharp claws capable of piercing Ultraman, and powerful physical attacks. | Decimated Laufey's Frost Giant force and later sought revenge against Nexus after regenerating from their prior battle. 100 101 |
| Galberos | A three-headed demon-type Space Beast that generates unusual fog and illusionary projections. | Iron Man and War Machine's weapons proved ineffective against it; its illusion ability was later used by The One and Izmael. 116 117 175 471 |
| Guluglaim | A fifty-thousand-ton reptilian “super tank” with a rock-hard body, regeneration, force fields, destructive beams, fireballs, and phase shifting. | Its phase-shifting organs can be disrupted by confinement fields or phase interference. 129 130 472 |
| The One | The progenitor Space Beast and source of the Space Beast Factors that produced later Space Beasts. It can endlessly evolve through absorbing life and manifest traits of its descendants. | Absorbed Abomination, survived massive damage from Nexus, and later served as Izmael's primary synthetic component. 163 176 177 464 |
| Abomination | An artificial gamma Space Beast created from Emil Blonsky's corpse, Space Beast Factor-carrying cells, and controlled gamma radiation. | Nearly sixty meters tall and extraordinarily strong; killed General Ross before being defeated and absorbed by The One. 161 162 163 |
| Megaflash | A floating, nautilus-like Space Beast that projects a rainbow-like energy field capable of nullifying incoming beams. | Emerged from Dark Field G over Manhattan and was destroyed by Nexus's Cross Storm. 455 458 460 |
| Kuttura | A tentacled Space Beast that hides in the Sea of Alien Forms, a subspace it maintains. Its black mist can devour light. | Destroyed by a Ravager warship's main cannon after Richard predicted its phase movements and added light fragments to the shot. 504 505 506 |
| Rizarias | A Space Beast assigned to guard a device siphoning dark emotions from a planet's inhabitants. | Led other Space Beasts against Nexus; all were killed by a single Storm Light Sword strike. 507 |
| Izmael | The Ultimate or Synthetic Space Beast, created by fusing the particles of multiple Space Beasts around The One's remains. | Inherited the weapons, organs, and abilities of Space Beasts it incorporated, including Galberos's illusions and Guluglaim's phase shifting. 463 464 471 |
| Reality | A Space Beast created by combining the Aether/Reality Stone with an unprecedentedly concentrated amount of Space Beast Factor. | Could erase harmful outcomes through reality alteration until Nexus extracted its Reality Stone core and destroyed it. 628 629 630 |
| Hive Space Beast | A nine-headed insectoid Space Beast created by combining the Space Beast Factor with the ancient Inhuman Hive. Hive operates it from within as a parasite. | Its healing cannot be suppressed by light because it originates from Hive's own ability rather than the Factor. 657 658 |
Background / History
The first documented Space Beast to appear after Richard's arrival was Pedron, whose existence alerted him to the possibility that Dark Zagi and other threats from the Ultraman Nexus world might also exist in this universe. 25 Bugbuzun later demonstrated that even a single Space Beast could annihilate an invading Frost Giant army without exhausting itself. 100
The One is identified as the progenitor of all Space Beasts and the origin of the Space Beast Factors scattered across Earth. In its original history, it arrived on Earth, used a human host, consumed organisms to evolve, and released the Factors that could transform other life-forms into Space Beasts. Noah's R7 Factors were distributed worldwide to suppress this infection. 152 163 179
Human organizations later recovered Space Beast remains and attempted to weaponize the Factor. The Hand's Bakuto became a massive Space Beast through such experimentation, while General Ross's researchers transformed Abomination's corpse into a gamma-enhanced Space Beast. 149 152 161 Ross's facility also contained incubation chambers holding modified humanoid Space Beasts. 160
After The One's apparent destruction, Dark Zagi collected its molecular remains and used them as the foundation for Izmael, a synthetic Space Beast assembled from multiple Space Beast components. 464 Zagi also admitted to releasing Space Beasts on less-developed planets, allowing them to create fear and despair that he could harvest to restore his own strength. 518
Later Space Beasts appeared beyond Zagi's known designs. Reality was created from the Aether by an unknown entity using an unfamiliar Dark Field, while Hive was independently transformed into a Space Beast through the combination of his Inhuman abilities and the Space Beast Factor. 628 657
Relationships
- The One — Progenitor of the Space Beasts; its fragments are the source from which later Space Beasts originate. 163 176
- Dark Zagi — Used Space Beast Factors to create and deploy Space Beasts, including Izmael, while harvesting fear generated by their attacks. 464 518
- Ultraman Nexus / Richard — Natural enemy of Space Beasts; his light suppresses the Space Beast Factor and enables permanent destruction. 162 461
- Noah — Pursued The One to Earth and released R7 Factors to counter the spread of Space Beast Factors. 163 179
- General Ross — Conducted illicit experiments on Space Beast remains and created the gamma Space Beast Abomination. 158 161
- S.H.I.E.L.D. — Investigated Space Beast transformations, developed detection methods, and repeatedly provided support during Space Beast incidents. 152 177 254
Story Role / Major Arcs
Initial Incidents
Pedron's appearance establishes Space Beasts as a new extraterrestrial threat in the Marvel world. Nexus defeats it in his first true battle, but later encounters reveal that stronger varieties can overpower armies and resist advanced weaponry. 25 26 100
Human Experimentation
The discovery of the Space Beast Factor leads to efforts to turn humans into controllable super-soldiers. These experiments instead produce transformed victims, modified humanoid Space Beasts, and the catastrophic gamma Space Beast Abomination. 152 158 160 161
The One's Return
The One interrupts Nexus's battle with Abomination, kills and absorbs the artificial Space Beast, and evolves further. It later displays illusion creation, phase shifting, extreme resilience, and enough force to shatter Nexus's Meta Field before eventually escaping severe injury. 163 175 176 177
Dark Field G and Izmael
Dark Field G releases multiple Space Beasts into Manhattan, including Megaflash, Galberos, Guluglaim, Nosferu, and Gurantora. Their remains are drawn back into the field and fused into Izmael, whose core is built around The One's recovered particles. 455 460 463 464
Nexus defeats Izmael by countering its varied inherited abilities, including phase shifting and illusions, through superior adaptability, mental strength, and phase interference. 471 472
Cosmic Outbreaks
Space Beasts continue to appear across the cosmos, including Kuttura near Planet Aklan and Rizarias on a world exploited for its inhabitants' fear. Dark Zagi confirms that such monsters were part of his method for accumulating power. 504 507 518
Post-Zagi Creations
After Zagi's defeat, new Space Beasts emerge from unknown sources. Reality is formed from the Aether and possesses reality-rewriting invulnerability, while Hive becomes a Space Beast whose regenerative mechanism bypasses the normal weakness to Ultraman's light. 628 630 657 658
Trivia
- Space Beasts do not share Ultraman's energy limitations. 100
- The One's near-indestructibility led Richard to compare it to a cockroach after it survived decapitation and extensive bodily destruction. 177
- Kuttura is described as unusually cautious, preferring to remain hidden in subspace and attack only with its tentacles. 504
- Izmael's composition includes at least Pedron, Guluglaim, Nosferu, Galberos, Gurantora, and Megaflash, in addition to The One as its primary component. 464
