Background

Xu Jin was originally a first-year modern history major. He transmigrated into the Great Yin Dynasty after the original owner of his body—a low-ranking commoner with deceased parents—died of wind-cold. Bound to him on the day of his arrival was the Compendium of Divine Powers, which promised divine powers in exchange for slaying demons and monsters. 1

For three months, Xu Jin survived on the original owner's few possessions while studying inherited memories, myths, folk accounts, and supernatural countermeasures. With rent overdue and food exhausted, he accepted a night-watch job at Blackstone Slope Quarry after identifying the signs of an imminent Stone Spirit emergence. 1

When the Mixed-Blood Stone Spirit appeared, Xu Jin attacked before its stone armor fully formed. He killed it with a quarry hammer, received the Compendium's first-kill reward, and gained the perfected Palm-Rolling Sword Formation. 2 Soon afterward, he slew the Yellow-Skin Demon that had evaded Demon Suppression Bureau agents, attracting the attention of Chu Feng and Zhang Shun. 3 4
