In the definition of physics, entropy increase was a spontaneous process of development from order to disorder. In thermodynamics, as entropy increased, the system's total energy remained unchanged, but its usable portion decreased. In statistics, entropy measured a system's disorderliness; the higher a system's entropy, the harder it was to accurately describe its microscopic state.
Simply put, entropy increase was the path toward chaos and destruction, and it was inevitable.
As early as 1943, during several lectures at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, Schrödinger pointed out that entropy increase was inevitably reflected in living systems as well. That was: "Life is a non-equilibrium system that survives on negative entropy."
The human body was a vast storehouse of chemical reactions, and life's metabolic processes were founded on biochemical reactions. From a certain perspective, the meaning of life lay in its ability to resist its own entropy increase—that is, its ability to reduce entropy. Within the chemical activities of the human body, spontaneous and non-spontaneous processes coexisted and depended upon one another. Because entropy increase was inevitable, living beings constantly returned from order to disorder, eventually and irreversibly advancing toward aging and death.
In other words, for a living existence, entropy increase meant disorder and death.
Reverse entropy, also known as negative entropy, was a process that opposed entropy increase in order to gain order and existence.
Entropy represented disorder, while negative entropy represented order. Reverse entropy could be simply understood as absorbing matter or energy from the outside, thereby reducing a system's entropy and making it more orderly, thus prolonging its existence.
The simplest example was that when humans consumed other animals and plants, they acquired the negative entropy of those animals and plants, causing their entropy to increase in order to sustain their own lives.
