"The Soul Tool formation was indeed the right direction, but we were still missing something."
"What was it?" Jing Hongchen asked in confusion.
"Teacher, what was a Soul Tool made of?"
Yao Shi did not answer immediately. Instead, he asked Jing Hongchen a question that every Soul Engineer knew.
Jing Hongchen was puzzled, but he still answered seriously:
"The inner and outer casings, the Soul Tool core, formation circuits, and various auxiliary components."
"That's right. Soul Tools were constructed from so many components. In a way, they were quite similar to us humans."
At that moment, Yao Shi somehow produced a diagram of Soul Tool components and a diagram of the human body, placing them on the desk. With his back to Jing Hongchen, he said:
"The inner and outer casings are like skin and bones, the formations are like blood vessels and meridians, and the Soul Tool core is both the heart of a Soul Tool and the counterpart to a human heart."
"Yet it differs from us humans as well. Soul Tools were made to be used by people, so Soul Engineers had never considered giving them self-awareness. Because of that, they lacked something extremely important."
As he spoke, Yao Shi turned around and looked at Jing Hongchen with a smile.
"Teacher, what do we humans rely on to think?"
Hearing this, Jing Hongchen immediately said, "The brain..."
The moment the words left his mouth, he understood. He hurried forward, picked up the two diagrams, and compared them as he muttered absentmindedly:
"That's right, the brain... Soul Tools possessed most of the structures analogous to those of humans, but because they were used by us, we ourselves served as their external brains... So Soul Engineers would never think to create an extra 'built-in brain' for them."
As his
