Shen Lian comes from Jade Gate Pass in the northwest. He is identified as the only son of Shen Ao, the Iron Wall General who guards the western frontier. 8

During a lecture on the horrors of demon rule, Shen Lian reacts with visible, barely contained rage: he grips his desk until his veins stand out and his eyes become bloodshot. The reason for his apparent personal hatred of demons has not been disclosed. 17
