"From the Prosperous State?"
The disciples of Baotu Spring Academy looked enlightened.
That explained it.
Li Mei asked, "Then why did you come to our academy without permission? Are you trying to gather intelligence? Don't waste your time. Our talents in the Prosperous State like to hide their abilities, unlike the showy Martial Artists from your side. We'll see who's truly skilled at the Dragon-Raising-Head Dharma Assembly!"
Li Xiuwen laughed inwardly when he heard that.
Hiding your abilities? Sure you are.
He had only fought Li Mei yesterday.
He even knew about the little bear tattoo on her thigh.
Li Xiuwen cupped his fists.
"I need to see the Tiger-Running Spring Master. Sorry for the trouble, but could you help me contact her? Here's my letter of introduction."
The young disciples reacted as though he had told a joke.
"You want to see the Tiger-Running Spring Master?"
"Do you even know who she is?"
"Our dean is one of the Hundred Outstanding Figures of the Mountains and Rivers. She's been renowned across the four lands for years. Forget you—plenty of talents at Tiger-Running Spring Academy have gone their whole lives without seeing her. And you think one letter will get you an audience? Come on, go home."
Li Xiuwen only smiled.
The young disciples meant no harm.
Li Mei opened the letter, and her eyes narrowed.
She quickly waved the disciples into silence.
Her expression turned grave as she looked at Li Xiuwen.
"What's your relationship with Mr. Long?"
Li Xiuwen smiled. "We're friends."
The disciples' eyes widened.
"Mr... Mr. Long?"
"Mr. Long is your friend?"
"Is that letter fake?"
"I heard Mr. Long went to teach at the Learning Society. Maybe it's real. He might be Mr. Long's student. Good grief."
Li Xiuwen had heard a saying long ago.
