Background / History
Su Wanying was the village chief Su Jianlin's granddaughter in Huai Tree Village and Chen Huai'an's childhood betrothed. The pair were admired locally and expected to marry when she turned eighteen. When Qingyun Sect arrived to test villagers for spiritual roots, she vowed that she would refuse the sect and remain with Chen Huai'an. 1
Her Supreme Water Spiritual Root changed her circumstances immediately. Qingyun Sect's Sect Master accepted her as his last personal disciple, while her grandfather forcibly separated her from Chen Huai'an and pressed for their engagement to be broken. Her uncle, Su Daqiang, later attempted to kill Chen in order to eliminate the connection entirely. 1 3
After entering Qingyun Sect, Su initially continued to think of Chen. When she glimpsed a familiar figure at Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion, she wondered whether he had somehow followed her to the sect; however, she dismissed the possibility and concluded that they had become people of different worlds. 26
Her breakthrough to Qi Refining elevated not only her own standing but that of the Su Family. The Sect Master allowed several of her relatives to enter Qingyun Sect's outer sect as minor stewards, enabling the family to plan a cultivation lineage around her status. 75 76

Personality
As a village girl, Su Wanying is devoted to Chen Huai'an and openly resists leaving him behind. She waits for him at Huai Tree Village before departing and believes that she would have refused Qingyun Sect had he appeared. 1 26
Life in Qingyun Sect changes her priorities. She becomes acutely aware of status, cultivation resources, family backing, and the value of a Dao companion who can materially support her path. She comes to regard Chen's Five Elements Mixed Spiritual Root and servant-disciple background as liabilities, choosing Wu Zhihao's influence and the Wu Family's resources over her childhood engagement. 120 122
She is highly sensitive to perceived slights and to Chen's unexpected rise. Qin Muyao's interest in Chen provokes jealousy, while Chen's ability to acquire resources and kill Yin Puppets causes both disbelief and regret. 133 161
By the end, her wish to reconcile with Chen is explicitly self-serving: she seeks his protection after his rise to Foundation Establishment rather than expressing remorse for her prior conduct. 177
