Background / History
Zhang Hu was a Zhang Family member and a Servant Peak disciple with a mid-grade fire spirit root. Having entered Qingyun Sect before Chen Huai'an, he used his cultivation and family backing to dominate weaker servant disciples. He was widely regarded as a Servant Peak tyrant whom newcomers were advised not to offend. 5
When Chen Huai'an attempted to sell a jar of Spirit Spring Water, Zhang Hu falsely claimed it as his own and took it through threats and intimidation. After finding that the water benefited cultivation, he became determined to uncover its source, believing that control of a spirit spring could provide the Zhang Family with lasting benefits. 5 6
He sent Wang Tong and other lackeys to follow Chen Huai'an, search his residence, and discover the supposed spirit spring's location. Wang Tong's disappearance only intensified Zhang Hu's suspicions, particularly after Chen Huai'an opened thirty meridians during the entrance test despite possessing five-element mixed spiritual roots. 7 12 14
After consolidating his second-level cultivation, Zhang Hu intercepted Chen Huai'an on the water-carrying route and again demanded the location of the Spirit Spring Water. Chen Huai'an, then at the peak of the late first level of the Body Tempering Realm, killed him in the ensuing fight and concealed the body inside the Purple-Skinned Gourd's space. 19 20
Appearance
Zhang Hu was a tall, thin young man who wore the robes of a Qingyun Sect servant disciple. 5
Personality
Zhang Hu was arrogant, possessive, and exploitative. He treated Chen Huai'an's Spirit Spring Water as property he could simply seize, backed false accusations with his lackeys, and threatened to invoke the Law Enforcement Hall against his victim. 5
He was also calculating in his bullying: he generally chose targets weaker than himself and avoided provoking cultivators whose strength or backing might endanger him. Before confronting Chen Huai'an again, he delayed to consolidate his realm rather than attack immediately. 20
His obsession with the Spirit Spring Water ultimately made him reckless. He viewed it as a renewable resource that could advance both his own cultivation and the Zhang Family's interests, refusing to abandon the matter even after his followers began disappearing. 5 7 12
