Bai Ye's question genuinely surprised Doctor Kal'tsit.

Bai Ye certainly had many questions he wanted to ask, but Doctor Kal'tsit had never expected him to begin with this one.

"Of course I can answer that... but I'm curious. Why did you choose to ask this question first?"

Doctor Kal'tsit looked at Bai Ye as she spoke.

"Perhaps to determine whether it's worth it?" Bai Ye's answer was somewhat ambiguous.

After hearing Bai Ye's answer, Doctor Kal'tsit gave him a long look. Then she slowly closed her eyes and said in an inexplicable tone:

"So that this land... may sleep peacefully."

"I want the people of this land to no longer weep only for partings and loss. I don't want our night sky to be filled with heartbreak and emptiness. I hope that perhaps one day... together, we can let every person on this land fall asleep in peace."

After Kal'tsit finished speaking, she returned to her usual demeanor. Bai Ye immediately understood. Just now, Doctor Kal'tsit had likely been imitating the tone of someone Bai Ye had never met when she spoke those words.

Perhaps because she had been stoic for too long, Doctor Kal'tsit's imitation had been rather stiff—one could even call it awkward.

But Bai Ye did not care about those details.

His mind had already been deeply shaken by what Kal'tsit had said.

For a moment, Bai Ye even forgot to breathe.

He had heard far too many lofty slogans and broad ideals.

Yet none of them struck the heart as directly as that single sentence.

They were the simplest of words.

Yet they were so powerful, so profound, so beautiful that merely thinking of them made a smile rise unconsciously to one's lips.
