Lungmen Guard Department training grounds. Led by Chen, Roy arrived here.
This was not the first time the person he was playing had come here, but it was his first time here himself. Still, the layout was not much different from the training grounds Roy remembered.
As for why Chen had brought him here... that was obvious enough. Even with approval already granted, Roy still had to undergo trial after trial. After all, being a police officer was unlike other professions. Without sufficiently strong "professional skills," handling all manner of emergencies would bring unbearable consequences.
Physical fitness, hand-to-hand combat, police equipment, weapons, and the corresponding professional techniques and system usage—these were the things Roy had encountered during training in his previous life. As for criminal investigation and legal knowledge... aside from his specialized studies during his school years, he had mostly learned and summarized it himself on the job.
That had also led to one thing: even within the same unit, everyone's case-handling efficiency differed. However, now was not the time for Roy to think about such matters.
What he needed to consider was how to face the test before him.
"Although Officer Wei has signed the documents, that does not mean you have truly joined the Guard Department, much less the Special Operations Group."
Chen said this as she looked at Roy, who had already changed into a training uniform, while she herself wore a tactical jacket.
Roy was not surprised by her words. If he had been allowed to join the Guard Department without any training or testing—especially a department as clearly extraordinary as the Special Operations Group—that would have been strange.
"Every Guard Department officer must undergo a series of training sessions, and the Special Operations Group consists of the elite among all Guard Department officers."
Since it was not currently recruitment season for the Lungmen Guard Department, and no group training had been organized, there were not many people in the training grounds. As for whether the Guard Department had regulations regarding rotating training duties?
Roy had never paid attention to that sort of thing.
"However, you only need to pass the relevant tests."
As Chen spoke, several people carrying various items entered the grounds. Clearly, Chen was not Roy's only "opponent"; these people dressed in instructor uniforms would also be his opponents.
"First is hand-to-hand combat. Ji Dan, you will be his opponent."
"Yes!"
At Chen's words, the man called Ji Dan stepped forward. He was a male Feline, though unlike a cat, his animal traits were closer to those of a tiger.
Though he wore an instructor's uniform, his sturdy build was still plainly visible. Some muscular brutes were all show, but as a Guard Department hand-to-hand combat instructor, he was clearly not one of them.
After warming up and putting on protective gear, the two men took their respective positions. Both had assumed their stances and were waiting for the command from Chen, who was acting as referee.
Roy did not know much about the Guard Department's fighting techniques, nor did he have the time to practice them from scratch. So, he planned to fight using the combat techniques he was familiar with. Compared to the Guard Department's methods, which he had merely encountered before, he was far more at ease with that fighting system—a collection of techniques distilled from twenty-three sets of traditional martial arts and various combat styles, the mandatory fighting skills practiced by soldiers, armed police, and ordinary police officers alike.
"Begin!"
Almost the moment Chen gave the command, Ji Dan charged at Roy. However, this was not a full-force attack, merely a probing strike, and the instructor looked somewhat careless.
The Feline had never regarded Roy as an opponent. The difference in their builds was simply too great.
In the past, Roy might not necessarily have been a match for this Feline. He understood well that a disparity in strength was not easily overcome. But now, things were different. After obtaining that system, his physical abilities were no longer comparable to what they had once been.
He did not even dodge. As he blocked the probing punch, Roy drove his knee into the Feline's arm, while his other hand chopped down.
As the Feline tried to pull back his fist through the sudden pain, Roy lunged forward. A punch carrying nearly the strength of half his body slammed viciously into the man's abdomen, followed by a side kick that sent him straight to the ground!
"Thanks for letting me win."
As his words fell, Roy, already having removed his gloves, extended a hand to the Feline.
To the side, Chen nodded at the sight. Perhaps the combat instructor had underestimated his opponent, and perhaps Roy's mysterious fighting style had given him an informational advantage, but none of that would change the outcome of the fight. Nor could she berate Roy for fighting dishonorably or anything of the sort.
Chen gave him a fairly good score on the form clipped to her writing board.
Next, Chen tested Roy in swordsmanship, various police tactics, physical fitness, and even firearms. Aside from his somewhat weaker score in swordsmanship, his results in everything else were quite good.
By the time all the tests were completed, the sky was nearing dusk.
"I'll submit your test records. Roy, go pack up your things, then report directly to the Special Operations Group."
After saying that, Chen headed toward the Guard Department building.
A few minutes later, the office area of the Lungmen Guard Department Auxiliary Police Corps.
Unlike that day, when Roy returned to the office, nearly everyone was still there. Judging by their movements, they seemed to be pulling up some sort of files.
"Hey, Roy!"
"Wasn't your leave supposed to end tomorrow? Why are you back already?"
It seemed Roy's predecessor had been fairly well-liked in this office. The moment Roy entered, everyone greeted him before returning to their work.
Apparently, the news of his recruitment and promotion had not yet reached this place. If he had acted a little earlier today, perhaps they would never have had another chance to meet.
"Everyone, perhaps this is the last time we'll all be together in this office."
The moment Roy finished speaking, everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at him. He could see traces of disbelief in their expressions.
Clearly, they understood what this meant. It meant Roy would be leaving this office, and it was almost certainly not an internal transfer within the Auxiliary Police Corps. After all, no senior officials had recently resigned or left.
As for being brought into the Guard Department as a regular officer... without someone recommending him, that was nearly impossible. Besides, with Roy's current position, how could anyone accept going to the Guard Department to become an ordinary junior officer?
Then there was only one answer...
"Roy, don't tell me you resigned?!"
