The Author's Bugs and Reader Comments

This standalone chapter appeared because a reader of "Bread and Salted Fish" raised some questions.

The author panicked, because much of the "common knowledge" in the book had been written from memory. It had been so long—what if I had forgotten something or remembered it wrong?

First, the author went to look up information and verify it.

Here, I make a promise: no matter what the question is, the author will not immediately dismiss it, but will look up the relevant information.

Then I will respond. I may agree with your view, or I may not.

Here is a demonstrative response regarding the disagreement between "Bread and Salted Fish" and the author.

[Question One]: Rock Lee could not cultivate chakra. He could not refine even the slightest amount.

Response One: Rock Lee had chakra (there is no dispute about that, right?), and the author believes he could refine chakra.

(1) In the Book of Rin, Book of Toh, and Book of Sha, Rock Lee's ninjutsu rating was "1." In the Book of Sha, his genjutsu rating was even blank, rather than "0."

(2) Rock Lee could not use any ninjutsu or genjutsu, but he could still perform some basic chakra control. The evidence was that Rock Lee could walk on water and walls (Baidu Baike).

(3) Although the Eight Gates was taijutsu, it required opening the valves of chakra. The process of opening them should require chakra control. If he could not even refine chakra, how could he control it?

[Question Two]: The "cloak" produced by the Eight Gates was not primarily chakra, but air pressure.

Response Two: Writing it as a chakra cloak was an obvious mistake by the author. It should have been energy, steam, air pressure, or something along those lines.

Actually, there were some bugs the author noticed upon rereading.

[For example] In the opening chapters, when Hayato helped Hasebe Kazuaki, it mentioned that Moonlight Hayate's frailty was a consequence of a lung injury. That was the author's own reinterpretation. However, according to the information, Moonlight Hayate had actually been frail and sickly since birth.

So the author later designed a plotline to make this bug reasonable.

[Another example] The author wrote that Rock Lee was terrible at written exams, yet in Boruto, Rock Lee wrote and published books. Also, perhaps not every Ninja Academy graduation exam included a written test.

Some people might wonder—Rock Lee knew neither ninjutsu nor genjutsu, so how did he graduate from the Ninja Academy?

Was it Kishimoto's bug? I think the answer was simple.

Perhaps the Three Body Technique was not tested in that particular class.

Or perhaps Naruto allowed Rock Lee to graduate no matter what because of the Eight Gates.

A reasonable interpretation was enough.

Finally, bugs will still appear in future writing. If you point them out, the author will definitely take them seriously. Those that can be changed will be changed; those that cannot will be remedied.

In fact, the original Naruto itself contained many controversies and even bugs.
