"Damn it, there are too many of them." Tachanka huddled by a second-floor window of the pharmacy, pinned down so hard by the endless stream of crossbow bolts and bullets from outside that he could not raise his head.
"We have to think of something. Fighting here will only put us at a greater disadvantage." Frost shouted as she reloaded her C1 submachine gun.
"I'll hold them off. Get out through the back door." Montagne raised his shield and stood firmly at the pharmacy's front entrance, drawing nearly half the incoming fire onto himself.
"Rook, stay on the second floor and support Montagne in defending the pharmacy. Mozzie, find a safe place and relay intelligence to us. Tachanka, Frost, Doc, come with me." Zhuang Xiaolin raised Death's Revolver and fired several shots outside, instantly knocking several mafia members to the ground. At the same time, he shouted into the communicator, firing as he retreated toward the back door.
Outside.
A steady stream of mafia members poured toward the pharmacy from every street in the slums.
God knew why so many mafia members had appeared in this Lungmen slum.
They all wore black suits, some cheap and shoddy, others high-end. But without exception, they all belonged to the same race—the Lupo.
There were two kinds of wolves that were the most terrifying. The first was the lone wolf that had strayed from the pack. You never knew what it might do.
The second was a pack of wolves with a goal. Once they fixed their sights on a target, they would never give up until they achieved it.
Clearly, this batch of Lungmen mafia had come for revenge.
Gunfire spat continuously from firearms resembling Thompsons. These mafia members used relatively cheap, low-grade Originium bullets. Compared to rubber bullets, these had far greater killing power, but that was all. The price of their cheapness was that they could easily cause their users to contract Oripathy.
For Terrans, the best choice was Originium bullets suited to Terran constitutions.
Otherwise, even if such weapons punched a few holes through a Terran's body, they would heal quickly before long. Or they might do no damage at all, unable to penetrate in the first place.
As crimson energy drifted into Zhuang Xiaolin's body one strand after another from outside, his body grew stronger and stronger.
Every time Death's Revolver killed someone, it unleashed an area attack around it.
Coupled with Illusion Field adding something extra to the nearby surroundings, the mafia members gradually became disoriented.
Zhuang Xiaolin and the others kept moving through the area. Wherever they went, several mafia members would inevitably be killed before they could react.
Glaz continuously provided sniper support from the rooftops, opening up more convenient routes for Zhuang Xiaolin and the others to conduct guerrilla warfare.
"Damn it, how are they so fast? Get the casters here and blow up every house in this place!" a hot-tempered mafia member roared.
Soon, several casters carrying Originium staffs stepped out from among the mafia members.
They raised both hands as energy began gathering in them, then flowed into their mediums. Their Originium staffs began to glimmer before suddenly blazing with light.
Fireballs were hurled out one after another. When they struck the decrepit houses of the slums, raging flames immediately erupted. The materials used to build homes in the slums were highly unstable. Some people used discarded steel plates, sheet metal, and wooden boards cobbled together, while others used plastic and cloth.
This meant that once a fire started in the slums, it was bound to spread for a long time.
Such a massive disturbance in the slums naturally alerted the Lungmen Guard Department.
Members of the Lungmen Guard Department rushed to the scene, speeding through the streets for nearly ten minutes before arriving in haste.
Chen frowned deeply as she looked at the charred corpses lining the streets of the slums, her fists tightening involuntarily. Seeing the mafia members madly attacking a certain location, fury rose in her heart.
In the blink of an eye, a scarlet blade flash streaked past. With its appearance, the casters and mafia members in the distance who had been frantically attacking the slums were instantly cut into several pieces.
By the time the remaining mafia members reacted and pulled their triggers at the Lungmen police officer who had suddenly appeared in the center of the battlefield, it was already too late.
"Chi Xiao, draw your blade!" Chen shouted. The crimson sword in her hand released an unstoppable aura. As one red flash after another appeared, the entire sky soon held nothing but a single vertical streak of red blade light.
The surrounding mafia members were all cut into several pieces by that fleeting, razor-sharp blade flash. Some were slashed so thoroughly that not even ashes remained.
Yet even after Chen displayed such force, large numbers of mafia members still swarmed toward her and the Lungmen Guard Department officers like rabid dogs.
A green-haired Oni and a blonde Feline stood silently behind the blue-haired dragon woman.
Behind them stood one heavily armored Lungmen Guard Department member after another, each holding a large shield.
"Damn it! We're almost out of ammunition. Why are there so many of them? It's like they'll never run out." Tachanka complained as he loaded an incendiary grenade into his grenade launcher.
"Watch out! Behind you!" Frost spotted a black figure behind Tachanka. She called out a warning while aiming her C1 submachine gun at the figure and pulling the trigger.
But... it was still too late.
A sharp dagger pierced Tachanka's heavy armor and went straight through his arm.
Tachanka cried out in pain, then used the force of his body to spin around, grabbing the person who had stabbed him with the knife and using the momentum to slam them onto the ground.
"Damn bastards, there are more and more of them." Tachanka clutched his bleeding arm and sighed as several more figures appeared at the distant street corner.
"I'll give you a shot. It won't heal you immediately, but it should at least ease the pain." Doc took out his stimulant pistol and gave Tachanka a shot in the shoulder.
Zhuang Xiaolin looked outside with a grave expression, while Death's Revolver in his hand continued firing energy bullets.
Wave after wave of enemies arrived outside. Death's Revolver harvested their lives, but the growing number of enemies put increasing pressure on Zhuang Xiaolin. Even though a single shot could send each of them to heaven, there were simply too many of them. Judging by the trend, the people arriving later might be of a higher caliber, and their situation would only grow more disadvantageous.
After surveying his surroundings, Zhuang Xiaolin spotted Glaz's position.
The terrain there was higher, allowing him to observe most of the slums and attack these people from above. Perhaps they could achieve unexpected results.
Just as Zhuang Xiaolin thought this, he saw a black shadow suddenly appear behind Glaz. The shadow moved so quickly that even the Claymore mines Glaz had deployed nearby failed to react. Holding a dagger, it lunged straight for Glaz's heart.
Zhuang Xiaolin's pupils contracted. He immediately changed color and fired three shots from Death's Revolver in rapid succession. The first struck the arm holding the knife, while the second and third went for the person's head and heart respectively.
But though the gunshots echoed through the slums, they could not stop the blade stabbing toward Glaz.
