Background / History

Tsunade was away from Konoha when Jiraiya brought her the false report of Nawaki's death in an explosive-tag trap. After destroying the casino table where she received the news, she ran continuously to Konoha, tore through the Hokage Office, and demanded answers from Hiruzen Sarutobi. Learning that Nawaki had survived and awakened Wood Release, she immediately went to the Senju Clan Compound. 9

At the compound, Tsunade saw evidence that the Senju estate had been stripped of its resources. Nawaki's account of Root's attempted killing of him and the Anbu's treatment of Kushina convinced her that Konoha's leadership had sought to erase the Senju line. She vowed to defend her brother and their clan, accepted Kushina as family by giving her Hashirama's crystal necklace, and later confronted Danzō over the Senju Clan's persecution. 10 21

During the Second Shinobi World War, Tsunade led medical teams at the Land of Rain front. She operated through mass-casualty battles, organized treatment and triage, and worked beside Dan Katō, who guarded the medical station and supported her efforts. Dan's death while protecting the infirmary left Tsunade unable to save him and caused severe hemophobia.
