"Nosepass, use Rock Throw!"
Since this was the second match, Roxanne was no longer restricted from moving first. She decisively launched an attack on Larvitar before Gary could act.
Nosepass stomped heavily on the ground with its broad feet. Dozens of rocks rose from the field and floated around it before, with a light wave of Nosepass's hand, hurtling toward Larvitar.
"Larvitar, use Dragon Dance to dodge!"
Watching the barrage of rocks come crashing down, Gary swept out his arm and gave Larvitar the command.
Upon hearing Gary's order, Larvitar began performing an ancient, graceful dance while using the movements to continuously evade the incoming rocks.
Since Dragon Dance boosted both attack and speed, Larvitar became increasingly nimble. By the time all the rocks had finished attacking, not a single one had hit it.
After evading the opponent's wave of attacks, Gary continued issuing commands.
"Next, use Iron Defense!"
A metallic gleam flashed past, and Larvitar's defense rose sharply.
"What a hassle," Roxanne said helplessly, but she continued her offensive.
"Nosepass, use Zap Cannon!"
Nosepass's large red nose began glowing blue. Countless electric sparks flickered across its body before converging into a golden beam that shot toward Larvitar.
"Use Iron Defense to take it!"
Facing the incoming Zap Cannon, Larvitar used Iron Defense once again. With its defense greatly increased, it emerged from the Zap Cannon completely unscathed.
"How could this be?" Roxanne stared in disbelief.
"Your attack is over. Now it's my turn, no objections?" After saying that, Gary turned his gaze toward Larvitar.
"Larvitar, use Brick Break!"
Larvitar immediately broke into a run toward Nosepass.
"Stop it! Use Rock Tomb!"
Likewise, Nosepass repeatedly used Rock Tomb, trying to block Larvitar's advance, but Larvitar dodged every attack.
Before long, Larvitar appeared in front of Nosepass. Its fist gleamed white as it swung it swiftly, smashing it hard into Nosepass's body.
Though Larvitar was not very tall, it possessed tremendous strength. One Brick Break sent the much larger Nosepass crashing to the ground.
Nosepass fell to the ground at once, its massive body shaking the arena as it collapsed.
"Next, use Iron Head!"
Naturally, Gary would not miss the chance while Nosepass was down, so he continued directing Larvitar.
Having received Gary's command, Larvitar lowered its body, aimed at Nosepass, and used Iron Head as it charged forward at full speed.
At that moment, Larvitar resembled a white Sharp Arrow, rapidly streaking toward Nosepass.
Before Nosepass could react, Larvitar's Iron Head struck it head-on, knocking it to the ground once more.
This time, however, Nosepass did not get back up as it had before. After taking two consecutive attacks, it was completely Unable to Battle.
"Nosepass is Unable to Battle. Larvitar wins, so Gary is the final victor!" After checking Nosepass's condition, the referee announced the final result.
"You did well, Nosepass."
Once the referee had made the announcement, Roxanne took out a Poké Ball and recalled the unconscious Nosepass.
"You did a great job, Larvitar." Gary praised Larvitar for defeating Nosepass.
Just as Larvitar grew embarrassed by Gary's praise, a warm light enveloped its body, drawing everyone's attention.
"That's... the Light of Evolution!" Rosa, who had come to Gary's side, said as she looked at Larvitar wrapped in the Light of Evolution.
"Larvitar is finally evolving." The smile on Gary's lips could no longer be hidden.
Soon, Larvitar's figure continuously changed within the Light of Evolution. Once its new form had completely taken shape, the light gradually faded away, revealing the evolved Pupitar before everyone.
Pokémon: Pupitar Type: Rock, Ground Ability: Shed Skin Gender: Male Level: 30 Potential: Pseudo-Legendary Moves: Rock Throw, Rock Tomb, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Iron Defense, Iron Head, Dragon Dance, Ancient Power, Focus Punch, Brick Break...
After looking over Pupitar's attributes, Gary's smile grew even brighter.
"Congratulations, Gary."
After Gary smiled and recalled the evolved Pupitar, Roxanne stepped forward to congratulate him.
"Thank you." Gary replied with a smile to Roxanne's congratulations.
"And this is the Stone Badge of our Rustboro Gym. It is proof that you defeated me. Please accept it."
Roxanne then took the gray badge the referee had just handed her and presented it to Gary.
"Thank you." Gary accepted the badge as he thanked her.
"You're welcome. You earned it," Roxanne said, shaking her head.
Once Rosa saw that Gary's Gym Challenge had ended, she eagerly jumped out from the side. "Now that Gary's Gym Challenge is over, should it be my turn?"
"I'm sorry, but not for the moment." Roxanne shook her head at Rosa's question.
"Huh? How could that be?" Rosa found the answer hard to believe.
"Do you not have any Pokémon left?" Rosa looked at Roxanne.
"That's not it." Although Geodude and Nosepass were currently unable to battle, Roxanne still had other Pokémon.
"Then why?" Rosa did not understand.
"The field has been damaged, so we temporarily can't continue the Gym battle," Roxanne explained.
"Let's schedule our Gym battle for the afternoon." After estimating how long the repairs would take, Roxanne gave Rosa her answer.
"Okay." Seeing that the problem was the field, Rosa could only agree.
"Then we'll come back this afternoon."
"Alright."
