After Gary caught Shiny Metagross, evening was drawing near. Rather than rushing off, he found a spot in the nearby forest and set up camp.

After finishing dinner, Gary lay inside his tent, impatient to see the gift pack he had received for catching Shiny Metagross.

"Let's see what good stuff I got!"

With a thought from Gary, the gift pack stored in the System Space quickly opened, revealing its contents before his eyes.

"This is..."

The moment the gift pack opened, a bead-like item appeared in Gary's field of vision.

The instant Gary saw it, he was slightly startled.

"It's actually a Mega Stone!"

That was right. Just as Gary had said, the item he received for catching Shiny Metagross was a Mega Stone.

"I've already finished." Gary nodded, then continued, "Grandpa, do you need something?"

"It's like this." Seeing that Gary had finished his own business, Professor Oak began explaining why he had called.

"You know Professor Rowan from the Sinnoh Region, right?"

"I do. Professor Rowan is no less accomplished than you in the field of Pokémon research, and he was also your senior at Rainbow University." Gary knew a little about Professor Rowan, so he nodded.

After saying that, Gary quickly understood Professor Oak's purpose.

"Grandpa, are you planning to visit Professor Rowan?"

"That's right." Professor Oak nodded, then explained why he had sought out Gary.

"Professor Rowan has some information that I currently need for my research. Since you happen to be in the Sinnoh Region, I'd like you to bring it back for me."

"Research materials? No problem."

"Then I'll leave my materials to you, Gary."

"Okay."

After Gary agreed, Professor Oak ended the call.

After putting away his phone, Gary let out a helpless sigh. "Looks like my plans to rest are ruined!"

Originally, Gary had planned to return to Pallet Town after catching Shiny Metagross. But now that his grandfather had said so, he could only head to Professor Rowan's laboratory.

Still, complaints aside, making a trip to Professor Rowan's place was not a bad choice.

So, after resting briefly in Strong Wind Town for a day, Gary set off toward Professor Rowan's laboratory.
