Gary defeated Leon in a private battle before traveling to Kalos with Rosa and Hilda, where Serena joined their group and began her journey. After earning the Santalune Gym Badges and competing in a Rhyhorn race, Gary faced Alain in a battle that remained unresolved as Mega Charizard X stood against Mega Gardevoir.

• Gary defeated Leon at Wyndon Stadium with Volcarona, then left Galar for Kalos with Rosa and Hilda.
• At Professor Sycamore’s lab, Gary reunited with Serena, received Treecko, and invited Serena to travel with them.
• Serena joined Gary, Rosa, and Hilda on their journey, and the group registered for the Lumiose Conference before heading to Santalune City.
• Gary defeated Viola and earned the Bug Badge, then Rosa and Hilda each won their own Gym battles, and Serena also spoke with Grace, who approved of her travels.
• Serena taught Gary, Rosa, and Hilda to race Rhyhorn, then won the first day’s competition and received a Soothe Bell.
• At Professor Sycamore’s lab, Alain challenged Gary to a three-on-three battle, and Gary’s Red Gyarados defeated Metagross and Tyranitar.
• Alain sent out Charizard against Gary’s Gardevoir, and both trainers Mega Evolved their Pokémon as the battle continued.
