My hand froze halfway through pulling up my coat collar.

To my left was that dripping-wet paper face pressed against the windowpane, creepy as hell.

To my right was the doorway, its door kicked clean off and cold wind pouring straight into the house.

Tsunade hefted two heavy suitcases and slammed them onto the floor.

The cases clanged against the broken tiles, splashing black, muddy water everywhere.

Their lids sprang open, revealing neat stacks of stiff banknotes.

"I dug your money out! Every last coin!"

Her forehead was covered in sweat, and her booming voice shook dirt loose from the damaged rafters.

"You're taking over tonight, brat! I'm going on vacation to gamble tomorrow!"

I rubbed my slightly itchy temples and let out a deep sigh.

"Auntie, that kick of yours completely wrecked my door hinges."

"And that door was made of expensive pine. You owe me cash for it, too."

Tsunade's eye twitched with anger. She jabbed a finger into my forehead and gritted her teeth.

"Like hell I owe you! There are ten million ryo in these cases, enough to build you ten front doors!"

"Sign the damn contract already! If you don't, I'll flatten you with one punch!"

Konan's paper face plastered against the window began making strange rustling noises, too.

The sheets scraped together in the wind, making tiny sounds like rats gnawing on wood.

"Sen Senju... Nagato's Rinnegan... don't even think about it..."

"Shut up. What are you doing playing Sadako here in the middle of the night?"

I turned around in disgust and casually swept my sleeve.

A vine as thick as a thigh shot through the gap in the window, whipping up a gust of green wind.

Smack.

Like a giant palm, the vine slapped the paper face into a shower of scraps.
