The History of the Uchiha Clan

Seeing that both of his sons, Sasuke Uchiha and Itachi Uchiha, were so curious about the past, Fugaku could no longer put them off. He could only patiently begin explaining it to them.

"When speaking of Konoha Village's history, we first have to go back to the time before Konoha Village was founded." Fugaku Uchiha began telling Sasuke and Itachi the story.

Sasuke Uchiha and Itachi Uchiha obediently sat down and listened patiently.

"Before the ninja villages were established, that period was known as the Warring States Era. It lasted for a very long time, and every clan fought for itself."

"The Uchiha Clan, Senju Clan, Uzumaki Clan, Nara Clan, Hyuga Clan, and so on, which you are familiar with—these great clans of Konoha Village were originally enemies during the Warring States Era. For their own interests, they could be cooperating one moment and stabbing each other in the back the next."

"Every ninja clan was hired by whoever offered the highest price to carry out assassination and extermination missions. Back then, ninjas could not casually reveal even their surnames if they wanted to survive. Even young children had to fight desperately on the battlefield, drastically lowering the average lifespan of both ninjas and civilians to around thirty years."

"It was in such an environment that Hashirama Senju of the Senju Clan and Madara Uchiha of our Uchiha Clan were born."

"The Senju Clan and our Uchiha Clan were the two strongest ninja groups, so the two clans generally acted in opposition—whenever someone hired the Senju, the other side would hire the Uchiha to counter them."

"Under Tajima Uchiha's leadership, the Uchiha Clan and Hagoromo Clan fought the Senju Clan together. The three great clans went through countless battles, causing most of Madara's brothers to perish. Only one younger brother, Izuna Uchiha, remained. Madara silently vowed to protect this sole remaining brother."

"Several years later, the Hagoromo Clan was discarded by its employer after failing to complete the mission of exterminating the Senju Clan. From then on, the Uchiha Clan faced the Senju Clan alone."

"But fate was always so unpredictable. From two clans that had once been mortal enemies came two exceptions: Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha."

"To ease his mind, Madara Uchiha went to the river to skip stones. Hashirama Senju also came to the river and became Madara's rival in skipping stones. Since they could not reveal their full names, they only told each other their given names. From the way Madara threw stones, Hashirama also realized that Madara was a ninja."

"At that moment, Hashirama Senju discovered the corpse of a Hagoromo Clan member in the river, so he hurried back, knowing this place was about to become a battlefield."

"After returning home, Hashirama Senju questioned things because of the death of his younger brother, Kawarama Senju, and was beaten by his father, Butsuma Senju. When Hashirama insisted that this was absolutely wrong and Butsuma prepared to beat him again, Tobirama Senju stopped him in time."

"Afterward, Tobirama Senju told Hashirama Senju that only by signing an agreement and forming an alliance could they avoid this endless war."

"But reality was cruel. Not long afterward, Tobirama Senju's other younger brother, Itama Senju, also died at the hands of the Uchiha Clan."

"Overcome with grief, Hashirama Senju returned to the riverbank. Madara Uchiha came there as well, and they came to understand each other's pain."

"Madara Uchiha believed that the only way to stop both sides from dying was to speak openly and honestly, but he felt it was impossible because of human nature. They believed that if they wanted the adults to accept their ideas, they had to become stronger themselves, so they began sparring with each other every day."

"They competed to climb to the mountaintop. There, Hashirama Senju proposed building a village to protect children, as well as a school where children could train, take missions, and be assigned ranks, keeping them away from war. Madara Uchiha also felt that this would better protect his younger brother."

"During this time, their daily outings aroused the suspicions of both fathers. Thus, Butsuma Senju ordered Tobirama Senju to secretly monitor Hashirama Senju's meetings with Madara Uchiha, and once it was confirmed, ordered Hashirama to kill Madara."

"To prevent any accidents, Butsuma Senju and Tobirama Senju secretly followed Hashirama Senju, while Izuna Uchiha's father, Tajima Uchiha, likewise planned to use this opportunity to kill Hashirama Senju."

"The fathers of both sides brought along their second sons and secretly laid an ambush, prepared to eliminate the eldest sons of the other side."

"But Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha had no desire to fight. They used skipped stones to warn each other and retreat. Then Butsuma Senju led Tobirama Senju in a charge toward the opposite bank, while Izuna Uchiha ran toward it with his father, Tajima Uchiha."

"Thus, the four confronted one another. While Tobirama Senju and Izuna Uchiha fought, Butsuma Senju and Tajima Uchiha leaped into the air and threw a ninja blade and kunai at them, attempting to kill each other's children."

"Fortunately, Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha blocked the attacks with stones in time. Afterward, Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju stood before their respective younger brothers, both declaring that they would not let anyone hurt them."

"Madara Uchiha's desire to protect his younger brother, Izuna Uchiha, caused him to awaken the Sharingan for the first time. Afterward, Madara declared that he would sever the bond between himself and Hashirama Senju."

"Later, when Tajima Uchiha asked Madara whether he was confident of winning if they fought now, Madara told his father that Hashirama Senju was stronger than him. Tajima Uchiha therefore judged that the situation was unfavorable and withdrew with his two sons, while the Senju side also retreated. Madara Uchiha's actions dealt a deep blow to Hashirama Senju."

"After that, Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju became enemies. Day after day and year after year, they continued fighting alongside their respective clans."

"As time passed, Tajima Uchiha died, and Madara Uchiha succeeded his father as leader of the Uchiha Clan. His younger brother, Izuna Uchiha, served as Madara's trusted aide."

"During the age of war, under Madara Uchiha's leadership, the Uchiha Clan fought the Senju Clan's ninjas countless times. Izuna Uchiha was a powerhouse on the front lines, earning many accomplishments for the Uchiha Clan and being hailed as a formidable enemy with 'no openings.'"

"The two great clans went through countless battles, yet neither could gain the upper hand. Then, in one later battle, Tobirama Senju seized the instant Izuna Uchiha thought he had succeeded. Wielding a sword, he used Flying Thunder God Slash, piercing Izuna Uchiha's body in one stroke at lightning speed."

"Madara Uchiha rushed to the heavily wounded Izuna Uchiha. Izuna had been gravely injured by Tobirama Senju due to his carelessness. When Hashirama Senju expressed his hope that the two clans could cooperate, Izuna Uchiha fiercely opposed it."

"Madara Uchiha therefore rejected Hashirama Senju's proposal, then withdrew with Izuna Uchiha. The Uchiha Clan ninjas present also laid down their weapons and surrendered to Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju."

"In that battle, Tobirama Senju turned the deadlocked conflict between the two great clans into a situation where the Uchiha Clan was hopelessly outnumbered, laying the foundation for the Senju Clan's victory."

"Because Izuna Uchiha's injuries were too severe to heal, before dying, he gave his eyes to his brother so that Madara Uchiha could inherit his power and protect the Uchiha. As a result, Madara Uchiha awakened the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan."

Sasuke and Itachi had been listening with great interest, but when they heard a term they had never encountered before, they frowned in confusion.

Sasuke was the first to ask, "Father, what is the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan? Why have I never heard of it?"

Fugaku Uchiha seemed not to have expected that he had inadvertently revealed something highly confidential. Most members of the Uchiha Clan did not know about it now; only the clan heads of each generation passed this knowledge down. But since he had let it slip, he might as well explain it.

"You both know that the Sharingan of our Uchiha Clan comes in one-tomoe, two-tomoe, and three-tomoe forms, right?"

Sasuke and Itachi both nodded.

"But beyond that lies the Mangekyo Sharingan. It is an eye that can only be awakened after experiencing immense emotional upheaval. The power it grants our Uchiha Clan far surpasses that of the three-tomoe Sharingan."

"At the same time, the Mangekyo Sharingan possesses different ocular techniques. However, using those techniques consumes ocular power. If too much ocular power is consumed, one's vision will deteriorate, eventually resulting in complete blindness."

"Later, members of the clan discovered that this was an ocular technique that could only be awakened by transplanting another person's Mangekyo Sharingan. Even then, it was not guaranteed to succeed. The closer their blood relation, the greater the chance of success."

"After evolving into the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, using ocular techniques consumes less ocular power, and the power that is consumed gradually recovers over time."

"You should know that in our Uchiha Clan, anyone who awakens the three-tomoe Sharingan is already considered a genius. The conditions for awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan are even harsher and demand even greater talent. As for the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, on top of possessing the Mangekyo Sharingan, one must fuse with the Mangekyo Sharingan of a relative."

"It was precisely because of these complicated requirements that many clan members carried regrets for life without ever awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan, let alone the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. As time passed, the clan gradually forgot about the Mangekyo Sharingan, and more people came to regard it as nothing more than a legend."

"Only the clan head of each generation passed down this knowledge from generation to generation, to prevent the Mangekyo Sharingan from truly becoming history and to leave the clan detailed information about it. That way, if an exceptionally talented clan member awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan in the future, they would not be completely ignorant of it."

After Fugaku Uchiha's explanation, Itachi Uchiha and Sasuke also came to understand the Mangekyo Sharingan and the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
