Serperior let out a warning hiss, her body springing swiftly out of its coiled position. Her menacing downward glare turned the researcher beside her pale just as he was about to perform her routine checkup.
Strangely, Serperior seemed to control her presence with remarkable precision. Several researchers were gathering data around her at the same time, but only the one directly in front of her was affected. His face remained miserable, and even the hand holding his instrument trembled.
It all started because this research intern, who had only recently arrived at the Nishinomori Research Institute, had lit up at his first glimpse of such an enormous Serperior. After seeing her complete data report, he had grown so excited that he could barely speak coherently:
"This is incredible! Being almost twice as long as an ordinary Serperior is one thing, but despite her well-proportioned build, she weighs more than five times as much! The muscle density in her tail is even higher than that of a Machamp at the same stage of development!"
"With that kind of weight, even a Heavy Ball designed for large Pokémon might not be suitable for this Serperior, right?"
The Heavy Ball was a special Poké Ball that increased the chance of catching large Pokémon in the games. For Pokémon weighing between 100 and 200 kg, its catch rate was no different from an ordinary Poké Ball. Between 200 and 300 kg, the catch rate increased by 20%; between 300 and 400 kg, it increased by 30%; and above 400 kg, it increased by 40%.
Its exterior was mainly gray, with round blue protrusions, and it weighed more than most Poké Balls. In the real world, it offered larger Pokémon a more comfortable experience.
