Golden lightning fell from the sky. Thunderclap spread outward from Pikachu, who stood where it had been on the battlefield, leaving a huge crater around it.
With the speed boost from Grassy Glide, Rillaboom escaped the range of Pikachu's Thunder at the last second. It watched the spot where it had stood only moments ago turn into a vast patch of scorched earth.
Alarm flashed in Rillaboom's eyes. Clearly, it had not expected such a small Pikachu to unleash an Electric-type move of that power.
The gap in raw strength left Ye Lan and Rillaboom struggling.
Volkner had not trained this Pikachu much, but it had picked up plenty of tricks from the Pokémon around it. More importantly, it could keep pace with Volkner's tactics and commands.
Ye Lan and Rillaboom's greatest advantage was that, as a Grass-type, Rillaboom took only half damage from Electric-type moves.
Rillaboom had barely caught its breath when Ye Lan's warning reached it through their mental link. It instinctively crossed its arms, and its drumsticks collided with Pikachu's Iron Tail.

Pikachu looked smug. As Rillaboom was forced back step by step, Pikachu put more force into its tail. The two drumsticks snapped in half with a crack.
But just as Pikachu moved to press its advantage, Rillaboom slid to its side with Grassy Glide and lashed out with a fierce High Horsepower kick.
"Ye Lan's about to take the initiative again!"
In the stands, Qin Chuan sprang to his feet. Even the Indeedee beside him was cheering Rillaboom on.
Though Qin Chuan was a breeder by profession, he could tell by now that Pikachu had kept the initiative entirely because of Volkner's skill at commanding it.
