Lin Yan bowed slightly. Knowing what Dr. Fuji was like, he said nothing more and turned to leave.
Two Pokémon Professors were stationed at Team Rocket headquarters: Dr. Namba and Dr. Fuji.
Dr. Namba regularly and reliably supplied Team Rocket with large quantities of high-quality weapons and scientific equipment, giving him the highest standing within the organization. Giovanni had personally appointed him chief researcher, and positions at his side were coveted by Team Rocket members.
Dr. Fuji was different. Although he had always focused on Legendary Pokémon, he had yet to produce any worthwhile results.
In a place like Team Rocket, failing to create value meant being utterly useless. Yet Giovanni was unusually tolerant of Dr. Fuji and continued to provide him with the best possible research environment.
Lin Yan suspected that Dr. Fuji's research was so important that Giovanni had a long-term vision for it, making the current lack of results irrelevant.
That was also why, although it looked as if Butch and Cassidy had forced Lin Yan away from Dr. Namba and into Dr. Fuji's service, he had actually gone along with it willingly. He now answered only to Dr. Fuji.
On that subject, Lin Yan had never expected Ye Lan to know even more than he did. Ye Lan had urged him to stay at Dr. Fuji's side as long as possible and earn as much of the doctor's regard as he could.
The professor everyone else considered the least influential had instead become a prized opportunity in Ye Lan's eyes. Lin Yan had chosen to trust him without hesitation.
He simply could not think of
