On a bright, breezy afternoon, Samwell returned to Arbor.

Last time, House Redwyne had sent only a servant to greet him at the docks, then made him wait in the reception room all afternoon. In the end, he had not even seen Earl Paxter.

They had been exceedingly cold.

This time, however, not only had Horas, House Redwyne's eldest son, escorted him all the way, but an area of the docks had been specially cleared upon his arrival, with numerous members of House Redwyne gathered to welcome him.

At their head was Earl Paxter's daughter—Lady Desmera Redwyne.

At the docks, Desmera stepped forward with a charming smile. "Ser Caesar, it is wonderful to see you. You are far more handsome now than you were as a child!"

The earl's daughter was tall and voluptuous, with fair, taut skin. Her features were not exquisitely beautiful, but they were bright and captivating. The only flaw was the few freckles on her cheeks, though they did nothing to diminish her beauty. If anything, they lent her a touch of playfulness.

Samwell quickened his pace slightly and came before Desmera. He had just meant to bow when he saw her extend her smooth, jade-like right hand.

He paused, but still bent down, took Desmera's slender hand, and lightly kissed her fingers. "Lady Desmera, you are even more beautiful than before."

Desmera withdrew her hand, turned, and made an inviting gesture. "This way, young knight. My father has been waiting for you in the castle
