"How could there be no problem?"
Everyone present was shocked, including Kriyev. In his estimation, the enemy should have poisoned some sort of raw ingredient. With hundreds of people supervising the process, it would have been difficult for them to tamper with the food during preparation. The best approach would have been to act on the ingredients themselves.
"There truly is no problem. We inspected every raw ingredient, even borrowing Rhodes Island's professional equipment. We tested the plates used to serve the food and the machines used to knead the dough as well, but everything checked out..."
As the senior officer spoke, he introduced the Rhodes Island doctors to everyone. At the front stood a woman with short white hair in a green dress. It was Doctor Kal'tsit.
"Please calm down, Miss Yelena. I can assure you that our toxicology testing methods rank among the best on this land, yet we found no toxins in any of the ingredients or utensils."
Kal'tsit paused slightly, allowing everyone to process the news before continuing.
"You need not worry too much about Mr. Claude's safety either. His body is exceptionally strong. Toxins of that level are not enough to kill him, and he will recover soon... But the other soldiers are far less resilient than he is, so we are still doing everything we can to save them. The odds are slim. The toxin in their bodies is unlike anything we have ever encountered, and an extremely unusual force is damaging their immune systems."
"Alright, Kriyev. You have been cleared of suspicion. You were indeed at fault, but we cannot blame you too harshly. The enemy's methods were simply too insidious and difficult to guard against."
Talulah rubbed her temples in frustration, though she also felt immense relief. Thanks to the captain
