Huo Ling looked over the battered, devastated city walls, his expression far from pleasant.
From the very beginning, the war zone under Huo Ling's command had never once gotten a break, as though the Abyss had intended to give him a sharp slap across the face.
The battle had not been without losses. One legendary undead and one devil baron had fallen.
Huo Ling let out a weary sigh and ordered, "Gather the spoils of war as quickly as possible, treat the wounded, and repair the city walls!"
"Yes, Commander!" a senior staff officer answered.
Back in the grand hall of the Commander's Manor, Huo Ling looked at the great devils and legendary undead, each of them covered in injuries.
He could not help asking the Seventh Overseer beside him, "Has the fighting at Bronze Citadel always been this intense?"
"With casualties this severe, how did you hold on before?"
This had only been two months of fighting. Even with a commander like Huo Ling looking after them, they had still lost two legends. How had Moli endured in the past?
The Seventh Overseer slowly said, "My lord, there is nothing to be done about heavy casualties. Garrisoning this place is a military order, and disobeying military orders means death as well."
"Previously, Commander Moli was able to hold the line because, firstly, the fighting had not been so intense before."
"Secondly, once casualties grew too great, Duke Moli would select high-ranking devils and promote them into great devils, or hire other legends to join the battle. That was how the defensive line held."
Huo Ling nodded, then said, "I see."
