Huo Ling grew up in a poor family in Stone Creek City. His parents, Huo Liren and Bai Xiaolan, are factory workers supporting Huo Ling and his two younger brothers. Before his final year of high school, he worked as a construction laborer during vacation and later as a restaurant waiter to help with household expenses. 1 2

Seeing Spirit Awakening as his chance to escape a life of factory work and improve his family's circumstances, Huo Ling applies despite its high mortality rate. He undergoes months of survival and combat training before entering the Spirit Realm alongside his classmates. 1 2 3

Transported to an abandoned city in the Spirit Realm, Huo Ling survives by securing shelters, concealing traces of blood, rationing supplies, and hunting goblins and walking corpses.
