Background / History

Locke was living as a farmer when a dying stranger emerged from a fire and handed him an infant, Dio Brando. A system registered the event as an adoption and tasked Locke with raising Dio healthily in mind, body, character, and labor. 1

He raises Dio with firm boundaries rather than fear of his power. When Dio injures Clark with The World, Locke harshly rebukes him for harming family; he later teaches Dio and Clark that power must be guided by restraint, resilience, and the refusal to become bad people. 5 13 28

After Dio’s 3,287-day guardianship period is judged successful, Locke unlocks a second adoption target: Saint Lord Saraphiel. He returns from his confrontation with Marbas carrying Saraphiel, names the child after the morning sun, and brings him into the family. 53

As Saraphiel’s hidden connection to Shendu emerges, Locke refuses to reject either child. He investigates their opposing powers, seeks guidance for them, and ultimately learns that Saraphiel and Shendu embody primordial constructive and deconstructive forces. 87 152

Appearance

Locke commonly presents himself as a practical farmworker, though his appearance becomes markedly more imposing when he uses his powers.

  • Brown curls; during a storm, his soaked hair is described as unable to diminish his calm bearing. 22
  • Often wears a cowboy hat while working on the farm. 22
  • Uses ordinary work clothes, including a khaki work jacket and dark trousers, when traveling. 229
  • In the future world of Heaven, he wears a black long coat with a partially raised hood. 114
  • When wielding Thunder Trigram, he is surrounded by blue-white electrical arcs that vaporize nearby rain. 145

Personality

Locke deliberately chooses an ordinary farming life despite possessing overwhelming power. He believes power should not replace judgment or humanity; he teaches Clark that using superhuman abilities to trivialize every task would “take all the fun out of it.” 13 173

He is patient and nurturing with his children, but his care is inseparable from discipline. He confronts Dio over violence, presses Saraphiel to be honest about Shendu, and repeatedly takes responsibility for helping his children control powers that could endanger others. 5 85 87

Locke is also pragmatic, sociable, and occasionally playful. He refuses Lionel Luthor’s business-partnership offer because he knows his own limits, enjoys food and travel, and bonds easily with people such as Aristides Demetrios. 41 230

When his family is threatened, his restraint can give way to ruthless action. He destroys the Court of Owls’ Talons, extracts information from a Silent Councilor through bioelectric torture, and eliminates threats he believes could reach Kent Farm. 126 127

Abilities & Skills

Star Platinum

Locke’s Stand, Star Platinum, is a purple humanoid manifestation with immense speed, strength, precision, and increasingly independent agency.

  • Stops time during combat, allowing Locke to strike an opponent repeatedly before time resumes. 51
  • Delivers punches fast enough to overwhelm Clark before he can react. 145
  • Detects hidden surveillance devices and can amplify Locke’s perception beyond his normal senses. 11 209
  • Can open spatial rifts and assist Locke in locating interdimensional anchors. 209
  • Possesses an independent physical body; Locke’s “work mode” counterpart is Star Platinum operating separately to manage farm work and Bruce’s training. 196
  • A specific cross-dimensional rift opened for Paradise Island’s missing royals was unstable and could only support one round trip. 233

Gen Qi and Physical Strength

The Qi of the Mountain of Gen strengthens Locke’s body and grants self-healing properties.

  • Absorbs energy from food, particularly meat, to increase his strength. 84
  • Can convert external magical energy into additional Gen Qi. 61
  • Physically lifts and swings a heavy SUV as a weapon against hell chains. 51
  • Uses his enhanced durability and strength alongside Star Platinum in direct combat. 51

Thunder Trigram and Electromagnetism

Thunder Trigram grants Locke control over lightning, electrical current, magnetic fields, and plasma.

  • Generates lightning bolts ranging from fine fingertip arcs to large thunderous discharges. 126
  • Creates an electromagnetic pulse that disrupts Gotham’s lights and neutralizes Clark’s power. 145
  • Uses controlled current to generate magnetic fields of different configurations. 145
  • Forms electromagnetic plasma barriers that absorb and disperse Clark’s Heat Vision. 145
  • Accelerates plasma electromagnetically into high-speed blasts and compressed plasma spheres. 145 146
  • Tracks targets by secretly planting lightning aura on them. 127
  • Applies precise bioelectric currents to access neural memories during interrogation. 127
  • His Shock Thunder carries destructive and purifying properties capable of permanently destroying Electrum-enhanced Talons. 127

Magic, Authority, and Dragon Court

Locke has developed substantial magical aptitude and accesses a mysterious Dragon Court space connected to his family.

  • Opens spatial rifts and summons his dragon soul through his Authority. 85
  • Creates a stable anti-scrying barrier around Kent Farm that repels hostile surveillance, divination, and curses without harming harmless animals. 128
  • Maintains a connection to Dragon Court even after crossing between universes. 115
  • Uses Star Platinum’s perception to search Dragon Court for dimensional aura anchors. 209
  • Can influence magical structures through his connection to them, such as commanding a living museum labyrinth to move a sealed wall. 156

Farming and Practical Skills

Despite his supernatural abilities, Locke remains an experienced and hands-on farmer.

  • Inspects crops personally after storms and uses damaged wheat as a lesson in resilience for Clark and Dio. 28
  • Understands the economic effects of agricultural policy and persuades Lionel Luthor to reconsider a tax-reform proposal harmful to small farms. 41
  • Continues to plant and tend Kent Farm by hand even when large-scale supernatural labor is available. 173 227
  • Speaks Chinese fluently enough to order extensively from a Chinese-language menu. 46

Equipment / Weapons / Items
