Since many of you might not dig too deeply into the details, I'll give you a simple summary to make the coming chapters easier to follow.

The first detail: King Zhou.

I had been planning King Zhou's suicide for half a year. Precisely because of this scene, I didn't spend much effort depicting the romance between King Zhou and the Nine-Tailed Fox earlier on. Otherwise, everyone would definitely have found it even harder to accept.

But King Zhou's failure stemmed from the Shang Kingdom's accumulated old ills. Logically speaking, the Shang Kingdom had become too deeply burdened to turn around through the efforts of a single generation.

Author Fungus could actually have portrayed King Zhou's death in an even more tragic and stirring way, which would have given the later plot more atmosphere. But that would have created a problem.

Based on the historical materials we have, there is no way to clearly define whether King Zhou was an enlightened ruler or a tyrant. Too many later generations vilified King Zhou, and history's lenses overlap layer upon layer. Without certainty, I didn't dare shape King Zhou into too lofty a figure. I merely had him do what a king of Shang could do, should do, and what suited this story's central theme.
