Compared with the bizarre designs of the first three rounds, this round, hosted by Vita Sage Academy, was much more normal.
No Hellhounds, no Undead, no strange Phantoms. It was just a quiz.
All 150 contestants stood at their designated places on the stage. A heavy Magic Grimoire sat on the table in front of each of them, containing the questions they needed to answer.
This was completely in Jia Xiu's comfort zone.
However, to make the competition more entertaining and ensure that people who had bought tickets felt they'd gotten their money's worth, Vita Sage Academy had put a lot of thought into the detailed rules.
The contestants weren't expected to finish the entire book within the allotted time.
The Magic Grimoire was a question bank containing a large number of questions, each assigned a different starting score based on its difficulty. Once the competition began, the scores would change. Every time someone submitted a correct answer, the score available for that question would drop by one point, to a minimum of one.
By contrast, submitting an incorrect answer would add one point to the question's value, while costing the contestant one point. This prevented anyone from deliberately submitting wrong answers to inflate the value of a question.
As the competition went on, the live status of every question in the bank would be updated: how many contestants had completed it, how many had failed, and how many were still working on it. The contestants' scores and rankings would also refresh in real time.
Dozens of Eyes of Detection would roam the arena, occasionally zooming in on a contestant for a close-up. Whenever that happened, the two commentators and the guest commentator, a professor from Vita Sage Academy, would start discussing the contestant on screen.
They'd comment on everything,
