Jia Xiu Squad's first rule of adventuring.
If Ram said there was a problem, then there really was a problem.
So everyone put down what they were doing and gathered around the wall brick Ram had found suspicious.
"Hmm—doesn't look like there's a spell on it."
Margaret studied it seriously for several seconds before making her judgment.
"Ram thinks it should be some kind of mechanism."
"Some kind of mechanism?"
Jia Xiu thought about whether a Knock Spell could directly knock open a mechanism.
Apparently not.
The spell code for Knock Spell explicitly stated that it could only open objects classified as "locks."
And the definition of a lock was specific: it had to be a mechanical structure requiring a corresponding unlocking tool, namely a "key," or an extremely simple structure, like a door secured with a basic bolt.
Complex mechanisms that did not require a "key" could not be opened.
If things like fingerprint locks or facial-recognition locks were invented in the future, the spell's classification would probably need expanding, or it would be hard to find any use for it.
"Can you handle it?"
Jia Xiu asked Ram. Mechanisms ought to count as craftsman work.
He really did not want to solve any more mechanism puzzles. This was not a game where they had to pause between plot points for some mandatory puzzle-solving just to slow the pace.
Ram did not answer directly. Instead, he walked up to the wall, pressed an ear against it, and tapped while listening.
It gave off the feeling of some veteran king of thieves opening a safe by ear in an old movie.
After fiddling with it for a few moments, Ram straightened up and nodded at Jia Xiu. "Ram can open it."
"Then you—hey, hey, wait a second."
