History

Founding and early years

Flender founded Shrek with Zhao Wuji, Shao Xin, Lu Qibin, and Li Yusong as its initial faculty. The academy began in an ordinary, impoverished village, occupying simple wooden houses with poor accommodation and limited resources. 1

Its early enrollment required a non-refundable registration fee of ten gold soul coins despite rudimentary facilities. Over its first twenty years, Shrek recruited 42 students and graduated 14. 1

Training centered on running, combat in soul-fighting arenas, and earning money for tuition. The academy's early meals were described as steamed buns, pickles, white porridge, and one egg per student each day. 1

Rise to continental prominence

Shrek's standing changed after Tang San and the Shrek Seven Devils studied there. The group won the Soul Master Tournament, fought Spirit Hall alongside the Heaven Dou and Star Luo Empires, and later became gods; Shrek consequently became known as an academy that had produced deities. 1

Xiao Changge Incident

Shrek personnel killed the Sun Moon Empire soul engineer who awakened Xiao Changge's Vermilion Bird Martial Soul and intended to bring him to the Sun Moon Empire. The engineer had discovered that Xiao possessed innate full soul power of level 30. 1 4

Xiao was forcibly taken to Shrek after refusing to cooperate with the academy. To suppress Ma Xiaotao's Evil Fire, Shrek compelled him to provide soul power and martial-soul essence, leaving him crippled for three years. 1 4 22

After Xiao's usefulness ended, Shrek gave him 100 gold soul coins and expelled him from the inner court. Students subsequently mocked him as a “loser,” unaware of the circumstances behind his weakened condition. 1 22

Ling Luochen condemned Ma Xiaotao and Shrek's treatment of Xiao, arguing that he had been coerced rather than having participated voluntarily. She sought to bring the matter before Mu En. 22
