Background
Gray was born into House Mans, a formerly prominent noble family that owned a large stretch of land. He was its third child, with an older brother and second sister ahead of him. 191
He became a lower-ranked swordsman at fifteen, but later stopped applying himself and allowed his talent to stagnate for years. 245 458
Before joining Marcus's party, Gray belonged to a five-person adventuring team near Garde Town with Mackey and a ranger named Lysa. His drinking, womanizing, and treatment of Lysa—who later became pregnant—resulted in his expulsion from the team after she left. 190 191
By the time Zeliel joined Marcus's party, Gray had become an easygoing but dependable swordsman. As the party's strength outpaced his own, he began training seriously under Mackey and eventually regained the drive that had made him a prodigy. 1 212 210
Appearance
Gray is a blond swordsman whose golden hair reaches his shoulders. He is usually seen with an uninhibited smile and a relaxed, dashing manner. 1
- Dazzling shoulder-length golden hair. 1
- Usually wears a carefree or flirtatious expression. 1
- Uses hard leather light armor reinforced with iron for mobility. 285
- Later adopts a dual-sword loadout, carrying the Cloudsteel Sword and a second quality longsword. 421
Personality
Gray is carefree, outspoken, and flirtatious; he is initially described as more accomplished with women than with swordsmanship. He enjoys taverns, gambling on luck, cooking, and teasing his companions. 1 217 365
His past with Lysa exposes a careless and irresponsible side, but he does not entirely dismiss the harm he caused. He acknowledges that he wronged her and tried to compensate her after learning of her pregnancy, though he remained unable to understand what she truly needed. 191
Despite regularly voicing fear when confronted by powerful enemies, Gray does not abandon his teammates. His greatest growth comes from overcoming panic in the Rose Castle catacombs, where the pressure of battle pushes him to break through. 149 241 242
Gray is also socially adept. He can easily entertain strangers and put villagers at ease through humor and conversation. 477
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship
Gray is a skilled swordsman with sharp, forceful attacks and refined defensive technique. He can redirect an opponent's force through subtle footwork and precise blocks rather than meeting every strike head-on. 2 116
- Defeated Zeliel repeatedly during training and taught him foundational sword techniques, including proper thrusting. 115 116 117
- Uses Windstride Style, an agile style centered on movement and footwork. 116 241
- Is familiar with Bedrock Style, a balanced and defensive swordsmanship style, though he favors more mobile combat. 116
- Can employ techniques such as Whirlwind Slash to strike exposed targets from the flank. 65
- His dual-sword style creates sustained offensive pressure and can overwhelm a shield user's defenses. 464
Wind-Attribute Battle Qi
Gray's intermediate-rank breakthrough awakened green wind-attribute battle qi, greatly improving his speed, strength, perception, and destructive power. 242 245
- Coats his blade in wind battle qi to cut through weapons, limbs, and skulls that his lower-rank attacks could not damage effectively. 242
- Enhances his already agile Windstride Style footwork, allowing him to evade attacks with extreme mobility. 241 284
- Can form a wind-based defensive technique to deflect incoming Wind Blades back at an opponent. 424
- Was still at the initial stage of intermediate battle-qi development when the party traveled to Ancient Forest Town. 301

Gray possesses practical adventuring skills beyond combat.

- Identifies valuable monster materials, including Dreadclaw Bear claws and paws. 373
- Cooks for the party during travel and learned the skill through his earlier life experiences. 468
- Taught Zeliel basic ballroom dance steps ahead of the Alberti Manor Winter Ball. 291
Equipment
