Background / History
Bev first meets Zeliel while waiting for a mage rating at the Mages' Guild. Intrigued that he is a self-taught commoner mage, she introduces herself with confidence and takes the assessment alongside him. On her third attempt, she passes and becomes a Magic Apprentice after demonstrating Wind Blade, Illumination, and Water Ball 12 13.
Her formal magical education makes her an important early source of theory for Zeliel. She explains the distinction between Elemental and Arcane School magic, guides him through the guild, and warns him that mages can be endangered by both monsters and untrustworthy teammates 15 17.
As an Imaginist School mage, Bev pursues the creation of new magic rather than only conventional spellcasting. Mage Hadley assigns her part of the Harvest Festival Firework Magic project: designing a circuit that produces a wheat-stalk pattern after the spell explodes. Bev and Zeliel repeatedly test and revise the design, eventually producing a golden wheat stalk in the sky; Bev then faints from exhaustion 109 110.
Bev brings Zeliel a [Challenge]-ranked commission from House Alberti when a Thousand-Toothed Rockworm appears in one of the family’s mine tunnels. After his party succeeds, she welcomes him to Alberti Manor, introduces him to her family, and teaches him to ride horses 176 186 187 188.
At House Alberti’s Winter Ball, Bev openly keeps Zeliel close and introduces him as her “very important friend.” After he leaves her abruptly following a private meeting, she confesses that she likes him; their relationship becomes official soon afterward 294 298 301. A future vision later depicts their marriage and a doomed life together before an Evil God’s descent, but Zeliel recognizes it as a warning against complacency rather than a reason to reject their relationship 296 461.
While Zeliel travels and advances in Ancient Forest Town, Bev struggles to focus on her studies because of how strongly she misses him. She repeatedly waits near Blackstone Town’s gate for his return, then joyfully reunites with him when he comes back as an intermediate mage 330 407 408.
As Zeliel prepares to leave for Silverpine City, Bev supports his future rather than asking him to remain behind. House Alberti begins establishing a merchant guild there, and she gives him a crystal card containing one thousand gold coins for the journey 461 462. Later, she cares for the griffin egg Zeliel gives her; when it hatches, the baby griffin immediately bonds with her 443 487.
Appearance
Bev is a refined young noblewoman with long golden hair, sapphire-blue eyes, and a delicate, captivating face. Her appearance and bearing are consistently associated with House Alberti’s wealth and status 12 264.
- Usually wears well-tailored pale-purple mage robes and carries an exquisite dark-red wand 12.
- Has long, smooth golden hair, sometimes worn loose over her shoulders and sometimes arranged in formal styles for noble events 187 293.
- Wore a moon-white, diamond-set evening gown at House Alberti’s Winter Ball 293.
- Is described as radiant and noble in formal dresses, including a pale-gold dress at Alberti Manor 186.
Personality
Bev is confident and sociable, readily approaching Zeliel when they first meet and refusing excessive formality between them 12 26. She is academically ambitious, taking pride in her plans to create new magic and persisting through failed firework tests rather than abandoning the project 26 109.
She is generous to the point of being forceful about it. Bev tries to buy Zeliel an expensive wand, gives him a Mind-Calming Bracelet, and later provides him with substantial travel funds 106 108 461. Her concern for him can become stern and possessive: she harshly reprimands Ella over the dangerous mission Zeliel accepted and openly keeps other admirers away from him at the Winter Ball 264 294.
Although raised in privilege, Bev does not dismiss Zeliel’s commoner background. She respects his independence and ultimately chooses to support his continued growth, even when his travels leave her lonely and insecure 330 430 462.
