Background / History

Xiao Wu first appears at Notting Soul Master Elementary Academy as the self-proclaimed boss of the work-study dormitory. She demands that newcomers acknowledge her as “Sister Xiao Wu,” then attacks Chen Ye when he beckons her over. Chen Ye catches her kick in a spatial rift and throws her to the ground; after Tang San is also defeated, she reluctantly accepts Chen Ye as the dormitory boss while promising to challenge him again. 5 6

Her early relationship with Chen Ye is hostile. When she questions him over Tang San’s absence after Yu Xiaogang summons the two boys, Chen Ye throws her into a wall. Tang San later confronts Chen Ye in her defense. 7 8 Despite fearing Chen Ye’s bloodstained return from Soul Hunting Forest and recognizing that his tiger paw came from a thousand-year soul beast, Xiao Wu wants to eat its meat to support her own cultivation. 15

Xiao Wu later protects Chen Yue when Xiao Chenyu and another student harass the two girls. Chen Ye rewards her with tiger-paw meat and asks her to look after Chen Yue before he goes to confront Xiao Chenyu. Xiao Wu is intimidated by Chen Ye’s cold anger and unprecedented thousand-year first soul ring. 16 17

When Chen Ye and Chen Yue prepare to leave for Spirit City, Xiao Wu is upset that they had not said goodbye. She is initially reluctant to accept Chen Ye’s later offer to join Spirit Hall because she fears that her soul beast identity could be exposed. Chen Yue persuades her, and Xiao Wu ultimately agrees to undergo an assessment. 22 23

Xiao Wu demonstrates the Soft Bone Enchanting Rabbit and her yellow first soul ring to a Spirit Hall knight, qualifying for admission. In Spirit City, she receives a Grade B evaluation and shares a two-person dormitory with Chen Yue. Over the following six years, she matures, reaches the two-ring Soul Master level, and receives an admission notice for Spirit Academy. 24 26
