One had been forged from the fragmentary authority left behind by ancient deities and had absorbed countless mixed and impure wishes. It could spawn thousands upon thousands of fire butterflies; should an ordinary person touch one, they would certainly be burned to nothing.
The other was a test product of the former. It lacked divine authority, yet because its appearance had received the worship of a cult, it contained the wishes directed toward fierce gods and had developed a small measure of authority, allowing it to conjure phantom serpents from water vapor.
One was yang and the other yin, one hot and one cold. Rising and falling in alternation, cycling through endless transformations, they faintly evolved the wondrous mutual generation and restraint of Kan and Li. Seeing this, Qi immediately acted to stabilize this profound mystery and further propel its evolution, causing the snake mask to merge into the butterfly mask and become the snake patterns upon the butterfly's wings.
At the sight, Yu's fox ears twitched. He leaned his head over and said with feeling, "You're quite lucky! If we had refined this mask ourselves, even with better materials, the Dao laws, principles, profound mysteries, and ritual prohibitions contained within would still have taken at least thirty years to refine."
Qi clearly liked the mask as well. As he played with it, he asked curiously, "You said before that this mask was a treasured artifact of an evil cult called the Eight Demons. Which eight are the Eight Demons?"
Hearing Qi's question, Yu immediately understood what he meant. After thinking for a moment, he said, "If I remember correctly, that cult worshiped evil gods of eight different attributes: heaven, earth, water, fire, wind, thunder, mountain, and marsh. Together, they were called the Eight Gods, though we generally called them
