Background
Yu Chen was originally a Snake Tribe shaman. Before departing the tribe, he transferred his position to Aya, insisting that she be recognized as the new Snake Shaman. He left to pursue cultivation without destabilizing the tribe during its transition of authority 1.
He is a transmigrator whose prior-life knowledge came from a game world. There, he spent seven years obtaining the Yu Chen Golden Slip Elixir Book, a supreme immortal-path scripture containing the one hundred and eight arts of the Thirty-Six Heavenly Gang and Seventy-Two Earthly Fiend paths 1. His personal “golden finger,” manifested as a bamboo scroll visible only to him, records and deduces cultivation knowledge 1.
After leaving the tribe, Yu Chen combined shamanic inheritance, talisman arts, sacrificial rites, and qi refinement. His early experiments led him to reject the witch path as a dead end, prompting him to develop an immortal-path foundation centered on the Orthodox Three-Mountains Talisman Qi Formula 14 15.
After recovering the fourth segment of his memories, Yu Chen learned that his “golden finger” was a miracle produced when the true intents of the one hundred and eight Heavenly Gang and Earthly Fiend arts merged with the aura of his crossing into the main world. It shares an origin with remnants of power left by the Supreme Dao Ancestor and allows him to cross time and space through instance worlds 488 504.
The being known as Yu Chen in his former game world was originally his game character rather than his prior-life name. Yu Chen accepted and integrated the trace of that character’s spirit rather than destroying it, gaining the Epoch Five Tribulations Scripture, the Tongtian Dharma Aspect, and further foundations for reorganizing the Yu Chen Yellow Court Inner Landscape Scripture 503 506 507.
Personality
Yu Chen is calculating, observant, and highly pragmatic. He studies an opponent’s habits, status, cultivation, and weaknesses before committing to conflict; he repeatedly turns hostile encounters into exchanges for techniques, artifacts, or information 5 13 63.
Despite his ruthlessness toward enemies, he protects those he considers his responsibility. He arranged for the corpse-born child A Bao to be raised safely by Auntie Wan, bound Hu the Great Immortal Aunt to protect Dong Ye, and consistently guides disciples, spirit beasts, and weaker cultivators 9 52 68 201.
He dislikes being manipulated or drawn into binding obligations. Yu Chen treats alliances as arrangements of mutual benefit rather than sentiment, and he is willing to refuse powerful factions when their terms would compromise his independence 54 141 262.
Yu Chen is notably restrained in his use of power. Even after defeating Yun Chenzi’s incarnation and seizing the Five-Colored Jade Ruyi, he refused to keep it outright and instead offered its return if Yun Chenzi ceased opposing him or survived the coming war 637. He nevertheless responds with extreme force when his disciples, Daoist sanctuary, or core interests are directly threatened 696 697.
As a teacher, Yu Chen is patient with differing temperaments and paths. He generally permits disciples and spirit companions to make their own choices so long as they do not abandon their moral limits or fundamentally oppose his principles 610. His teaching emphasizes both independent understanding and responsibility for the consequences of one’s choices 340 507.
