Background / History

Ji Huaishu is the adopted daughter of Ji Qiufeng, the City Lord of Dragon's Return City. She wears a pendant that Ji Qiufeng says was on her when he found her; she believes it may have belonged to her biological parents. 7 39

Before the present story, Huaishu purged Jade Marsh of cults, demon-possessed criminals, and violent faiths under the name Doom Knight. Her methods were severe enough that swamp residents still flee in terror at the sight of her, despite her insistence that those she killed had blood debts and deserved punishment. 29 30

As captain of the understaffed Resurrection Corps, Huaishu personally patrols Dragon's Return City and takes frontline assignments. She initially arrests Chu Hengkong over suspicions that his tentacle arm is evidence of demon possession, but later supports his recruitment after he proves his value. 2 3 6

Ji Huaishu is a slender young woman with golden-blonde hair and purple eyes. She commonly ties her hair into a ponytail while on duty, but wears it loose during leisure time. 8 39

She is intensely protective of her subordinates and city. Chu Hengkong recognizes early on that she cares about the casualties suffered by Corps members, and she repeatedly puts herself in danger to reinforce allies or rescue civilians. 4 36 49

Her past as the Doom Knight weighs heavily on her. Although she can be brutal toward demons and proven criminals, she refuses to slaughter deceived residents even when they have been incited against the Resurrection Corps.
