Background and History
The Machine Race was among the first races to become a peak race. Alongside the Demon Race and Insect Race, it occupied fertile territory in the Primal Universe's core region before the Human Race forced its way in 721. The four neighboring peak races later fought frequent wars and jointly established Extraterritorial Battlefields, including one in the former Black Pepper Secret Realm 115 297.
Led by the Machine Race Father God, the race maintained its own alliance of subordinate races. Its relationships with the other peak races shifted with their interests: it cooperated with the Human and Insect Races to probe the Demon Race, then joined the Demon and Insect Races in an offensive and defensive alliance against Human expansion 446 515.
During that territorial war, Human-led forces invaded Machine Race territory. Demon and Insect Race reinforcements arrived after three Machine Race Universe Masters had been killed; the wider battle ended in a stalemate 518 519. In the ensuing negotiations, the Machine Race agreed to cede 150 star sectors to the Human Race 524 525.
Later, Human powerhouses surrounded and suppressed the Father God in the Universe Ocean. He initially ordered his race to take its resources and leave the core region, but subsequently agreed with Lu Qingshan that the Machine Race would join the Hong Alliance in exchange for survival and 100 reserved core-region star zones 588 589 590. He also sent Lord of Myriad Gods into hiding with experts, geniuses, and resources as a safeguard against possible betrayal 590.
Biology and Organization
- Soul-less lifeforms — Native Machine Race members cannot be enslaved or attacked through the soul. They also cannot enslave others through soul techniques 201 404 464.
- Master-recognition system — Immortal gods recognize Universe Venerables as masters, venerables recognize Universe Masters, and Universe Masters recognize the Father God. This hierarchy makes disobedience to his orders unlikely, though members serving different masters can still fight one another 590 710.
- Avatars — Machine Race experts generally lack the avatar opportunities available to some soul-bearing races. Lord Luo Chen and Tu Wu are named exceptions who gained avatars through fortunate coincidences 464.
- Alliance membership — The Machine Race Alliance includes soul-bearing alien races, whose members can serve as its spies or fight alongside its Universe Masters 404 518.
Abilities and Technology
Mechanical weapons and control
- Machine Race experts are known on the Extraterritorial Battlefield for powerful mechanical weapons. An army-lord-level immortal with a sufficiently strong weapon can threaten a king-level immortal, making rank alone an unreliable measure of danger 97.
- Machine Race teams can combine their attacks; several teams secretly joined forces to fire a beam that destroyed a limit king-level expert it merely grazed 427.
- The Father God controls a vast mechanical-puppet legion. His 10,081 puppets each contain part of his divine power; in a life-or-death situation, he can shift his consciousness among them, though escape through a single puppet would leave him severely weakened 470 588.
Detection and computation
- Machine Race experts' detectors surpass those of experts at the same level, making them difficult to discover 97.
- Their computational and multitasking abilities are formidable. A Machine Race lifeform at Universe Master level can serve as the Virtual Universe's processing core, while the Father God's abilities exceed those of his race 398 470.
- Despite its technological strength, the Machine Race's battlefield support and coordination remain inferior to those enabled by humanity's Virtual Universe 97.
