Gu Siyue parked in the underground garage of Harmony Building. During the morning rush, she would have to wait through three elevator rounds, so she leaned against the marble wall and closed her eyes for a while.
Boheng Law Firm was on the nineteenth floor, and the morning meeting began at eight thirty.
As she crossed the open office area, two interns who had been chatting immediately straightened up when they saw Gu Siyue approaching.
"Good morning, Attorney Gu!"
Gu Siyue nodded at them, went straight to the break room for a cup of coffee, then entered the conference room.
Twelve chairs surrounded an oval table. Three were already occupied by people chatting. The seat at the head of the table was empty, with printed weekly reports laid out before it. That was Fang Zhengping's seat.
Gu Siyue took her seat, pulled out her laptop, and began working.
Several more partners filed in one after another. Fang Zhengping was the last to arrive. He was Boheng's director, fifty-four years old, with jet-black hair combed immaculately and a bespoke blue suit.
Fang Zhengping glanced at the Patek Philippe on his wrist. "Everyone's here. Let's begin."
Everyone received a copy of the weekly report. Starting from Fang Zhengping's left, each senior partner reported in turn on the previous week's progress and the schedule for the coming week.
Then it was Gu Siyue's turn.
"Two cases closed last week, with collections of 1.4 million. Shenghui Medical won the first-instance patent infringement case. The other side will likely appeal, and we're already preparing the materials for the second instance. In addition, Qingyue Cloud's trademark licensing is moving forward. We have a meeting scheduled with their legal department this week—"
"How large is the matter?" Fang Zhengping raised a hand to interrupt her.
"Thirty-two million."
