Han Luyi pushed open the car door, his phone still pressed to his ear. The call timer had reached 11 minutes and 47 seconds, but there was no sound from the other end.
Only a security guard on duty remained in the lobby, scrolling through short videos. He glanced up at Han Luyi.
In the elevator, he switched his phone to speaker mode. Apart from the faint electrical static, he could hear nothing.
The nineteenth-floor hallway was dark, with light spilling from only the innermost office.
The instant he pushed open the door, he heard his own footsteps coming through the phone.
A phone lay on the floor, its screen lit up with "Source Code Technology—Han Luyi."
Gu Siyue lay on her side beside the filing cabinet, folders scattered in a circle around her.
[Gu Siyue] [Diagnosis: Viral cold, overwork, orthostatic syncope, non-critical]
Han Luyi let out a breath.
He hung up, crouched down, and lifted her into his arms, carrying her to the leather sofa in the corner of the office. Her face was burning red.
He hurried downstairs and bought fever patches, ibuprofen, and bottled water from the convenience store.
By the time he returned, Gu Siyue had woken up. Leaning against the sofa armrest, her eyes had yet to fully focus. When she recognized him, her first reaction was to frown.
"How did you get in?"
"The door wasn't locked." Han Luyi unscrewed the bottle of water and handed it to her. "I heard you fall over the phone."
Gu Siyue took it and drank a sip, then swept her gaze around the room before it landed on the desk.
The computer was still on.
Han Luyi followed her gaze.
