"Didn't you do a better job than me? What do you need me for?" Zhao Wenyuan asked.

"I don't want to keep doing code checking. I want to build a large model," Han Luyi said earnestly.

Zhao Wenyuan looked out at the street.

"Luyi, I worked on model training at DeepMind. Do you know why I chose applications instead of models when I started my own business?"

Han Luyi looked at him.

"Because large models cost too much. This isn't a field we can afford to play in." Zhao Wenyuan turned toward him. "Thanks for the invitation, but give it some more thought, Luyi."

"No problem," Han Luyi said. "The door at Source Code is always open to you."

Zhao Wenyuan smiled and raised his coffee. "All right. I'll remember that."

They chatted a little longer before Han Luyi got up to leave. As he walked out of Luckin, he glanced back-Zhao Wenyuan was looking down at his phone again, his coconut latte already empty.

The entrance to Hongqiao Station was packed with people.

Han Luyi emerged from the subway with his backpack on, carried toward the entrance by the crowd. A middle-aged man ahead of him had two woven sacks slung over his shoulders. Behind him, a family of four pushed suitcases along, a child riding on his father's shoulders with a little national flag in his hand.

The line slowly brought him to the entrance, where he scanned his code and went in. Every seat in the waiting hall was taken, and plenty of people were sitting on the floor too. The announcements were probably cycling through train information, but the roar of voices drowned them out.

He had just taken his seat on the high-speed train when WeChat chimed.
