Ch. 361Data Mosaic
Chapter Summary
Lu Xingyuan acquires the Level 5 Extraordinary Creation Data Mosaic, which permanently obscures his avatar and identification number on other Train Conductors’ panels. More importantly, activating it erases every Train Conductor’s memories of his number. Since identification numbers function like essential IDs and are required to use dangerous items such as the Delayed Departure and Forced Dispatch Signal Gun, Lu Xingyuan sees the item as a major improvement to his security.
He activates the Data Mosaic, sending its effect across every track. Conductors who had no connection to him remain unaffected, while anyone who remembered his number briefly loses that memory. Lu Xingyuan tests the effect on Gu Wanqing by offering her a wager: if she can recite his number, he will pay her one hundred Train Coins, but if she cannot, she must pay him twenty. Although Gu Wanqing had memorized the number, the effect prevents her from recalling it, and Lu Xingyuan gleefully collects the coins.
However, Gu Wanqing becomes upset when she realizes that the memory is completely gone. Her distress makes Lu Xingyuan realize that his experiment has hurt her emotionally. He teleports into her train, comforts her, and embraces her as she cries despite insisting that she is not crying. He explains that an item caused the memory loss and apologizes, offering to return the twenty coins and compensate her with two hundred more. Gu Wanqing lightly bites his shoulder in protest but accepts his reassurance. When she asks for his number again, Lu Xingyuan recites it slowly; once is enough for her to memorize it anew.
The chapter emphasizes the importance of identity and personal information in the Train World, as well as the tension between protection and emotional intimacy. Lu Xingyuan’s playful, opportunistic personality is contrasted with his tenderness and guilt when Gu Wanqing is genuinely hurt. Their interaction deepens their affectionate bond, showing Gu Wanqing’s emotional attachment to him and Lu Xingyuan’s willingness to comfort and make amends.
The ending shifts into author commentary, noting that Lu Xingyuan has reached Level 6 and that the cooldown for the Silver Serpent Flying Swords’ Transformation Reassembler is nearly complete. The swords are expected to undergo a fifth transformation, prompting discussion about what new form they should take.
