From above, the circular furrows carved into straight lines looked remarkably like Omni-Man's chest emblem.
Bang!
Bang!!
Bang!!!
Through his upgraded adaptability, Leon gained a degree of understanding from the damage he suffered.
Along the way, Leon returned three punches to Nolan, each one fiercer than the last.
The steadily increasing force surprised Nolan.
That ability to learn... he had practically been born to be a warrior.
Which meant he absolutely could not be allowed to stay by Marcia's side!
As their fighting spirit rose, fatherly love gained another point.
Nolan caught Leon's fourth punch, and his Intelligent Atoms surged.
With a twist of his body, he slammed Leon back into the ground, reversing the momentum.
But Leon was not about to be outdone. As they traded punches, he curled his abdomen and bent his knees, building up force before kicking Nolan away.
Then he pushed off the ground and took flight.
After giving the Moon another crater, he crashed into Nolan and sent them flying toward Mars.
This plowing contest across the Moon's surface continued for hundreds of kilometers, and Cecil was already thinking about how to explain it.
That scar would be discovered by both space agencies and Moon-watchers alike.
A secret weapon test by the Defense Agency? Or some peculiar alien form of goodwill?
Maintaining the boundaries between human society and all manner of superhuman oddities was an extremely difficult task.
Cecil scratched at what little hair he had left.
"Damn it, I should've spent five million to stop them earlier."
Watching the two figures in the satellite feed, now blending into specks of starlight.
He slapped the table, drawing everyone's attention.
"Enough watching. Get your asses off those damn chairs and tell me exactly what those two monsters just did."
"Calculate all the data for me. Do you hear me?"
Under his orders, the silent Defense Agency sprang into action.
In space, during the sublight phase before their bodies entered warp, the two collided several more times.
The moment Mars came into view, Nolan grabbed Leon by the throat, while Leon locked onto him in turn.
The two spun at tremendous speed.
The colors of their clothes gradually blended together, then shattered amid the spinning before they finally smashed into the surface.
They kicked up a towering mushroom cloud of red dust that swallowed the entire area.
As the cloud slowly cleared, the sound of continuous impacts rang out from its center.
But once everything had dispersed, it was the same old sight.
Two men with their shirts torn to pieces, leaving only the lightning-patterned tights unique to superheroes.
The older one sat on a rock, while the younger one sprawled against another.
Their bodies were covered in bruises, and their chests heaved violently, but neither showed any intention of fighting again.
This friendly spar between Viltrumites, from Earth to Mars, had finally come to an end.
As they caught their breath, Nolan glanced at Leon several times. He wanted to speak, but did not know what to say.
In the end, Leon spoke first:
"We're done fighting. Want to talk?"
The Heaviest Punch
"Talk?"
On Mars's red soil, the old man spread his hands.
"What is there for us to talk about now? Talk about how well you fought this battle?
Talk about why you became my daughter's classmate and came to my home? Or should I praise you for following my advice quite well so far?"
Nolan gritted his teeth.
"You did very well. Truly."
"Personally, I'd like to start with the first point."
Leon straightened the index finger that had been bent backward from the fight and held it up.
"Uh..."
Nolan had not expected Leon to be so shameless.
But thinking back, although his tone had been respectful, he had provoked me and hit me hard. He had never respected me at all.
Still, speaking objectively, Nolan admitted honestly:
"To be frank, new blood, you've given me many surprises. Before the Scourge Virus descended, I served as an instructor too.
I've never seen anyone grow as quickly as you. And I'm not afraid of making you arrogant when I say that you're probably second only to the Regent in this regard."
As Nolan spoke, he once again sank into his memories.
Before that disaster arrived, he too had accepted his coming-of-age trial after training the new recruits.
His father's punches had been restrained, his mother's hand chops sharp. Those were his clearest memories.
"On a side note, how did you perform in your coming-of-age trial?"
"You know General Craig. He's good at guiding people, patient and persuasive. His fighting style is very steady."
"As for Anissa, uh..."
Under Nolan's urging gaze, Leon said awkwardly:
"She fought with great anticipation."
Anticipation? What kind of description was that? Their numbers were dwindling. Wasn't it only natural to look forward to the Empire's new blood growing stronger?
Nolan's mustache twitched.
"What do you mean?"
"You know, there isn't a single Viltrumite she thinks highly of right now, but she hopes to provide the Empire with some... additional help."
"And I probably, maybe, perhaps performed quite well in my coming-of-age trial."
Simply put, he had caught the attention of a caring big sister and might offer loyal service to the Empire at any time.
It took Nolan's brain several turns before he understood. There was a pig preparing to root up my daughter's cabbage!
But wouldn't it be good if he took her away? That blond punk would not need to enter the house anymore.
But Marcia would definitely be heartbroken!
After several shifts in thought, Nolan's face darkened.
"So you mean you're being ambiguous with Anissa while also planning to date my daughter?"
"There's nothing between us yet, sir."
"You still want there to be something?"
See? Typical Earth father logic, the kind that existed solely to argue. There was no reasoning with someone like that.
Not to mention, given Anissa's personality, even if he wanted to make a move, he would have to wait until Leon's raw strength surpassed hers.
Besides, what ambiguity was there among Viltrumites? If they liked the look of each other, they started fighting within a second. After that, the winner had the final say.
And what even was there between him and Marcia? What was the old man getting so worked up for?
But those arguments could not be laid out plainly, so Leon could only give him time to calm down.
After a long while, Nolan gazed at the stars in the sky and said:
"New blood, tell me everything from the time you infiltrated Earth, to meeting Marcia, up until now. Leave nothing out."
"Of course."
Leon had prepared for this. Viltrumites did not lack the wisdom to consider such matters.
He emphasized that their meeting had been a coincidence.
To study the combat strength of Earth's heroes, he had chosen from the five cities with the highest rates of superhuman crime.
In the end, he came to Chicago.
And while he was resolving his identity issue, Mechanical Head had recommended the high school Marcia attended.
So he naturally chose an identity that matched his age group.
It was reasonable.
After all, first, the old man would not believe Leon had the ability to track or investigate him, and second, he could not possibly imagine the existence of a transmigrator.
Sure enough, Nolan nodded in acceptance. But when Leon mentioned that Black school bully,
Nolan's right hand instinctively formed a hand chop.
"Tell me that bastard is dead now."
"His life is pretty much over. I heard that after I intimidated him, teammates who had long been dissatisfied with him took the opportunity to kick him off the school team. Now he's gotten involved with drugs."
The old man frowned.
He was not satisfied with that outcome, and he regretted that his daughter had not told him about something like this.
"Don't worry, sir. They're just insignificant mosquitoes. Marcia has many friends, and she's strong too."
The old man relaxed, then frowned again.
Why does this guy act like he understands Marcia better than I do?
Still, after that satisfying fight, most of the anger in his heart had been vented.
The matter was already settled. He could only accept it.
"Then, new blood, is there anything else you want to add?"
Considering how rare this opportunity was, Leon said frankly:
"Yes. For some reason, Cecil found me through Mechanical Head's network. He wants me to work for him."
"So he may already have monitored our fight."
Nolan showed an expression of having expected it, with a trace of nostalgia.
"That was how I met him too. It really would trigger his sensitive nerves.
But it doesn't matter. Two Viltrumites are enough to conquer this place when necessary. In my original plan, that position belonged to Marcia, but now that we have you, he'll be even less capable of stopping us."
Since Marcia had been brought up, Leon pressed his advantage.
"So Marcia hasn't awakened her abilities yet?"
"You should be able to tell. No, she hasn't, but she still has a few months before she turns eighteen."
